DeWalt DXH190HD Forced Air Kerosene Heater

In a weird pricing glitch I got this for $150 so I am going to review it on that basis, rather than the $500 it usually is.It's actually quite amazing, like having a small jet engine in the barn. It also heats the whole thing up in less than 10 minutes. If you need a lot of heat fast and efficiently then I don't think you could do much better than this! Don't expect to be able to hear any conversations anywhere near it, that's just not going to happen.Oh yeah... The dog loves it too.

I have been waiting for cooler weather to review this item, and it has arrived! I live in northeastern Colorado and have been looking for a heater for my 30’x60’ shop for a few years. I have no gas supply to the shop, so that left me with a choice of an electrical heater, or a liquid fuel. Electric heaters are expensive to run, and I am able to get dyed diesel (not taxed for use on roadways) at my local fuel station for about $1 less than highway diesel, and about $3 less than kerosene.Out of the box, assembly only took about 15 minutes. I initially filled with 5 gallons of diesel. When the switch was turned on, the burner sputtered a few times, then roared to life without any adjustment. When I say “roared”, I mean it! The biggest downside of this heater is that noise. When running, I can’t hear anything else.Fortunately, though, this heater HEATS! My uninsulated shop will go from 25°F to 65°F in about 20 minutes. With the installed thermostat just above the minimum position my shop will remain above 55° for about 45 minutes. From this point, the heater will cycle on for about 8 minutes before reaching the set temperature. So, for the short time the heater is on, it is loud, but efficient enough that the noise is limited to short duration.I highly recommend this heater.

Have used the heater for a couple winters now. Pros- heats well, fairly well built. Cons- Leaks fuel around the filler cap and fuel gauge like crazy. If it is full and you carry it in your truck, expect to have quite a bit of fuel leak out. That also causes dust to stick to it and makes it really dirty. I use diesel and the fumes are really bad. I have other similar heaters that also use diesel and they do not put off nearly much odor. I have adjusted the flame and can't make it any better. It will give you a headache fairly quickly. I don't know if kerosene would be better, but the cost is prohibitive since we go thru about a full tank a day when we are using the heater.

This is a really nice heater. I put it together and took it out to my drafty, uninsulated garage. My garage is 24 X 30 and probably about 15 feet tall. When it was 15 degrees I started it, with no problem, and it heated my garage enough where I was comfortable. I am very pleased with it. The only drawback is that it does smoke a lot when you shut it off. I use diesel fuel in it. I will adjust it a little and see if this helps. I recommend this heated to everyone. If I can get it to stop smoking I will change my rating to 5 stars.

This unit pours out an incredible amount of heat. I have an uninsulated drafty 40' x 60' shop and this turns it to summertime inside. It does have an appetite for fuel to match using about a gallon an hour. I started on kerosense but quickly went to #1 diesel. Very slight pump pressure adjustment done with a flathead at the easy to access adjustment screw and done. Burns clean and smoke free after starting..
