Wow!! Star Ocean is always a great game.
6/28/2016 - I haven't gotten far into the game yet, i'll update as I get further into it. I've played all the star oceans (Except psp ports). I've always been a huge fan of the series. Seeing it come to life on the ps4 with enhanced graphics is wonderful. It still has the live fighting, but even better. Now instead of running into a mob and it loads the fight up, it instantly goes into battles (Kinda like monster hunter). It still has all the star ocean tid bits such as the berries for HP and MP healing. You start off in a village by the ocean, you're the blue haired swordsman named Fidel. You're good buddy's name is Ted, The two hear rumors of an invasion, Fidel decides to investigate the rumors. (star ocean always has some of the most unique names)This game is the perfect mix. Live action fighting, (not turn based). Set in space, lots of cool stuff to see. Quality graphics. Lovable characters! What's in store for you in this game: Character development, this game always delivers on this point. Already the game shows a lot of promise on character development. I think i'll be a little sad when the game ends. The storyline, so far the storyline hasn't developed a ton; however, in all other star oceans it's been a roller coaster ride.Tons to do, these games are jam packed with cooking, events, tons of other types of things. I haven't gotten into a lot of that yet, but I will update as I play the game.If you're a fan of RPG games and haven't played star ocean before, I recommend it 100%. This game is beautifully designed. The characters are great so far, I'm going to have a blast playing this game.7/01/2016 - Update. There are a few things that bug me about the game, but over all I still have a fun experience. The characters voices are well recorded but some of their emotions don't seem to come through as well as I'd hope. Sometimes characters are excited but their voice isn't, or scared and their voice doesn't relay that to me. (Mainly non main characters). I'd have to say I wish they spent a little more time on this. The camera - I don't really have a lot of issues with the camera, I usually just keep my thumb on the right analog to counter act it. But it seems they put in a system to accommodate the camera position for you running up and down stairs and over rocks and what not. So sometimes it likes to jump forward on your character which can be annoying, (not a big deal in my opinion). The party - So far I hadn't had to do anything special to get party members, they just kinda randomly show up and join up and then leave and come back. I do wish there was secret characters like in star ocean 2. (If there is, I hadn't encountered it yet.)Still a fun game, one of the best jrpg games on the ps4 that I've played. If you're a fan, still worth taking a chance for.

A great game that doesn't get the credit it deserves
I expected this game to have a lot of issues because of the poor reviews and cheap price (~$10). I was really surprised when I started playing the game and finished it. To me this is a 9/10 game because of the excellent graphics and good story imo. The combat is also what I like because it's real time, free-movement, not turn-based. The only complaints I have it some quality of life problems when playing the game - No restart when you die, you have to reload last save. You can't skip many cut scenes which can be a pain if you keep dying on something and retrying.I think if you like modern final fantasy, you will also like this. If you like action combat, and not turn-based you will like it.

Keeps Faithfully with Star Oceans of the Past
Overall, I would say that this game is good but not excellent by comparison to the standards of other JRPGs.. The game revisits several elements of Star Oceans of the past and does so quite well. The combat system is very reminiscent of previous installments of the franchise and offers a few new exciting elements including a massive seven party team that is active in every battle. Characters are highly customizable through the use of skills that can be leveled. This adds quite a bit of depth to combat as well as party development. Item creation is back too and fun to manipulate (especially if the player is aware that there are a few select recipes early on that can be used to give the party a decisive advantage for a good portion of the game's main story). I would also praise the game's graphics, story, and music as being quite good too which is a typical feature of Square-Enix JRPGs.I feel that this game loses out in a couple areas, though. The world at times can feel quite small especially given that, for the most part, sidequests involve frequently revisiting previous areas. This feature can make the world feel small and redundant at times. The combat system, as well, might feel awkward to fans of traditional RPGs since it is very action heavy with very few turn-based elements.A couple of other redeemable features include the fact that the game has multiple difficulty levels as well as endings that can be manipulated through the "Private Actions" feature of the game. Overall, I would consider this game quite good and would recommend it to any fan of JRPGs that may be looking for something new to play. I would also recommend the official guide to go along with this game since it is rather complex with several elements that a player might not be able to figure out on their own.

Movment bug?
I'm only a few hours in, and it may be just me, but I seem to experience an odd stutter-step when moving around the world, fairly constantly. It's distracting, and I'm hopeful just a bug that can be patched.*edits* it was definitely the controler. After thst was sorted, I throughly enjoyed the game, however I'm once again slightly dissapointed with the ease of defeating the bosses on every difficulty level. It might be I've just been playing these games for a decade or more and I know the mechanics, but every boss just seems way too easy. Star Ocean the Second Story had bosses that would stop me in my tracks occasionally forcing me to spend time leveling up to beat them. I've not experienced that in SO5.Aside from that though, I at I'll throughly enjoy the story, crafting, world's and characters.

Gran juego
