Years ago I used another brand of food dye from a grocery store to try to make green cream cheese frosting for a Christmas red velvet cake. I had to use so much dye to get the deep shade I wanted, it thinned out the frosting so much the two layers of cake were practically touching. I did not even come close to having that problem with Good Cooking Liqua-Gel Food Coloring--in fact I had a little bit of the opposite problem, which I'm not complaining about at all!I used these food dyes to decorate a dragon cake and castle smash cake for my daughter's first birthday. As you can see in the photos, the colors on the dragon cake are vibrant. Aside from the candy and fresh fruit "jewels" and milk chocolate door, every decoration on these cakes is colored with Good Cooking Gourmet Liqua-Gel Food Coloring. I used the fuschia dye for the pink buttercream frosting on the dragon's body, the lemon yellow dye for the yellow buttercream frosting on the "gold" horde, and the violet dye for the white chocolate purple wings and spikes. It only took a few drops to get the vibrant shades of each color that I wanted, so it did not change the consistency of the buttercream frosting or the white molding chocolate.I used the coal black dye for the gray castle smash cake. It only took exactly one drop--yes ONE--to get the gray shade I wanted for the buttercream frosting and white chocolate stones, and I had to use extra buttercream and white molding chocolate so it wouldn't come out too dark! Yes, I actually had to dilute the dye instead of diluting the frosting and white chocolate to get my desired, lighter shade. It was a nice problem to have compared with my experience with another brand.And I love that this set comes in a pack of 12 assorted colors, so I didn't have to spend a lot of time and money to get all the colors I needed for my project. Since it only takes a few drops to get the color I want, I'll be able to use this same set for many more projects, which means I save yet more time and money.Word of advice: wear gloves to protect your hands when using these dyes. They are very effective, and stain the skin. I did not experience any skin irritation or any other adverse reaction, but it took several washings over the course of two days to get the fuchsia stains off my hands. Again, I'm not complaining, just driving home the point of how effective these dyes are.I highly recommend this 12 pack of Good Cooking Gourmet Liqua-Gel Food Coloring to fellow cake decorators, and look forward to the many more projects I'll be able to complete using this one set.

When I say use sparingly I mean it! If you're using for slime I suggest using clear glue to get the most vibrant shade possible, BUT USE A TOOTHPICK to swipe the color from the bottles. if you put too much squeeze and a whole drop goes in, or heaven forbid more... your hands (and anything else that slime EVER TOUCHES) are doomed!I have been a chef for over 20 years and I can say that these colors are the same quality and strength we use in commercial kitchens. If you are thinking they will be like the ones you buy in he baking section of the grocer you're wrong! So add a lil at a time no matter what you're using them for. Like we say in the kitchen, "You can always add more, but you can't take it out!"we also got these add ins on amazon that were very cool! Very bright colors. This was my first time with this brand, and I found it a bit difficult to get one drop to dispense at a time, so my colors were very saturated. Next time I may dip a toothpick through the cap to pick up just a bit of color to start. Stickers on caps are a bit misleading-one of my helpers made teal instead of green because he didn’t read the color name on the bottle. Red and fuchsia appear similar from the outside as well. Colors mixed easily, washed off hands and surfaces with soap and hot water.

Love the vibrant colors! I usually use food coloring drops when decorating our traditional Christmas cookies. I was actually searching for a brown and black food color when I came across this and decided to try it. This is a great buy and price for 12 bottles. You only need to use one drop, so this will last awhile! Package arrived on time in a padded envelope but most of the bottles we're loose as they had come out of the box. The tops of the bottles we're also loose but no spillage as they all have a seal under the cap. So not a problem, but just thought I would mention it with a suggestion of possibly having the box lid taped before shipping. My daughter and I are thrilled with the color results! Great and wonderful product! Definitely recommended. Thanks!

I love these colors and the ease of use! I have been using Wilton gel, but it is a pain to get out of the container. These worked so well and the colors came out great (I made black, Kelly green and maroon this time). I am looking forward to making more colors soon.

I've been baking and decorating cakes for years. These gels are SO MUCH BETTER than the liquid food colors that existed years ago. I've tried several different types and brands of food coloring over the years (liquids, gels, jars of gel, etc). These are among the best.The colors are super bright and vibrant. The gels are very saturated - you don't need much to color a lot of batter/frosting. The 12 pack offers a nice variety of color options. If you're willing to mix, you could make almost any color or shade you'd want.Mine arrived well packaged without any leaks. My only problem with the product - the containers are really hard to open. They have tamper proof seals (of course), but they're really really hard to open w/o making a mess. Granted, I live at altitude, so often packages are hard to open w/o some spilling/exploding. These had no tabs to pull or any easy way to get the tamper proof seal off. That seems like a fairly easy fix which would make this product even better.I really like these gels and look forward to using them again and again.

I bought this set as a present. I have loved mine. They're easy to use and so many colors
