US Festival 1983: Days 1-3

Does it make me biased if I was there? I hope not, but maybe it does. I should have bought this DVD a long time ago. I nearly teared up as it took me back to what would turn out to be one of the best days of my life. The commentary didn't bother me, it did make it more like a documentary. I enjoyed watching the crowd shots as it helped take me back to that fabulous little misty memory. Am I the only one who kept pausing while trying to find myself in the audience?! Mark Goodman said it best when he mentioned the vibe of the audience, it was all about fun (except for the little skirmish in the parking lot/campground between day 1 and 2 haha!) I wasn't making much money in 1983 and was only able to attend day 1 but really wanted to see day 2 also. I didn't know how to pull that off, so this DVD helped fill a bit of that void. Too bad they didn't include the space ship and Jumbo-Tron alien commentary, I thought it was a great fluff piece on the eve of day 1. Also the bit of drama when The Clash was late taking stage due to an argument over money, but I can see why they wouldn't want to mention that in the DVD. Perhaps that was Joe's way of fighting back against being labeled a sell out, RIP JS. If a lack of full band sets will bother you then this is likely not the product for you. There are a few bands who have released full set list DVD versions, I highly recommend The English Beat one as it does not disappoint at all. I think this product is more of a must have for anyone who was there. I thank those involved in delivering this to us.

The US Festival 1983 weekend was one of the very best moments of my life (and I'm not going to mention all the reasons why). I had just turned 18 and it was my first burst of adult freedom. I had only been to a couple of concerts prior to the Festival and this was musical nirvana in 1983 (when we still had real music, good music).These bands and artists were phenomenal (including Van Halen with a belligerent and intoxicated David Lee Roth) and the drama with The Clash. The Festival also shows some of the great diversity of music we had, especially with much of the new music of the era.But, unfortunately, this DVD only shows a smattering of the performances (I'm going to give the DVD producers benefit of the doubt and guess that's it's due to rights and clearances). I wish I knew that before I bought it. The information was here in some of the reviews, and while I'm usually pretty thorough about such things, I either missed it or didn't realise how much was missing. But, at $21 and change, there's enough!Rock on!

I love anything to do with The US Festival so when this was released I was all too happy about it.The time capsule of the bands this showcases is spectacular. Of course there should be more. Of course we should have all of the full performances from these historic weekends, but thats up to The Woz now, isn't it?Anyway, if you are a fan of live music from the 80s then you certainly cant go wrong with this.

Well, probably like many of you who bought this or want to buy it, I have less memory of experiencing it than I wish I had. haha!The telling part of the description, since there's not much, is that it's only a couple hours long. If they're your Favorite Songs of All Time (they won't be and there are only 23), by the Only Bands Worth Seeing (there are only 14 bands) over three whole days, then go ahead. It's cheap enough. It was pretty good but video wasn't the best, like VHS quality I guess. Wish they would have had more songs from each artist but this thing was 3 days long and probably would have needed 10 discs to fit it all. I read the reviews when I bought it though and was expecting it. It also had some interviews I never seen before and footage that isn't on You tube. If you are a fan of some of these artist and want to get a feel of what the event was like I would recommend it.

本当に中途半端なDVDでした。せめて1日を1枚、3枚セットとかなら少しくらい高くても買う価値はあるのになぁ。3日間の本編の他に、スコーピオンズとトライアンフがそれぞれ1曲ずつがボーナス映像となっています。本編ではMTVの元VJマーク・グッドマン氏とメン・アット・ワークのコリン・ヘイのインタビューが挿入されています。特にメン・アット・ワークの映像ではコリン・ヘイのインタビューが曲の途中で挿入されるのでファンの人にはちょっとがっかりな仕上がりです。それはそれとして、MTVの元VJマーク・グッドマン氏のインタビューは曲と曲の間に挿入されていて熱いコメントをしていますが、それも1日目のみ。どうせならもっと他の出演者にもインタビューして欲しかったですし、このインタビューを特典映像にすればスコーピオンズもトライアンフも本編に収録できたのでは？と言う疑問が残りました。他の方も書いていますが、ジューダス・プリーストは「復讐の叫び-30thアニバーサリー・エディション」（EAN ‏ : ‎ 4547366067095）、クワイエット・ライオットは「ライヴ・アット・USフェスティヴァル 1983(DVD付)」（EAN ‏ : ‎ 4547366064926）、トライアンフは「Live at the Us Festival」（EAN ‏ : ‎ 0713137920294）を買えばフルで鑑賞できます。ワイエット・ライオット以外はまだ普通に買えます。2日目だけでもフルで出ないかなー。

I was very excited when I ordered this. I remember watching it on Showtime back in the day when it was happening and was really excited to have the performances for keeps. However there is only a track or two from each artist (less that a whole song from Berlin, the primary reason I bought this) with some talking heads talking over the beginnings. I really hope another release is coming with the full festival - and perhaps the video quality will be a little higher too. In the meantime I will watch them in full on Youtube.

2日目のHR/HMのみが見たくて購入しました。大昔ＭＴＶで放送された物をリアルタイムで見てた世代ですので凄い期待をしてたのに､モノの見事に裏切ってくれました。発売前にＶ.へイレンが収録予定になってたのに契約の関係なのか？バッサリ！カット。凄いライブパフォーマンスだったので特にファンではないけれど､もう一度見たかったのに｡｡｡演奏部分にインタビューが被っていたりする個所も幾つか有り､気になりました。26年前の画質ですから期待していなかったとは言え､You Tubeよりはマシって程度の物です。追記）J.プリーストは「復讐の叫び-30thアニバーサリー・エディション」を買いましょう。Q.ライエットなら「ライヴ・アット・USフェスティヴァル 1983」を買いましょう。（限定国内盤をお勧めします。Q.ライエットの同タイトル輸入盤の付属DVDはリージョンフリーでは無いので　国内プレーヤーでは再生出来ません)どちらもUS FESTIVAL時のオフィシャル・フル映像なのでお勧め出来ます。この勢いでV.ヘイレン、ScorpionsもDVD付でリリースしてくれないかなぁ〜
