Christian Roots of Stephen Covey's Approach
As the title indicates, this book is the connection between Covey's Christian/religious thinking and his popular 7 habits books. It draws from his experience as a mission president and has a lot of advice he gave to his missionaries and as in other books his experience with his family members. One of the stories of the missionaries that was in the Ireland mission while Covey was the president there really stuck with me. The missionary was sloppy, unkempt and had an uncontrolled mouth and couldn’t study because he was constantly distracted. He committed to getting up before 6 AM every day and slowly all his other defects followed. Since reading that and because I had time and I tried it and those two hours every morning has become extremely valuable to me. I very much dislike being constantly rushed and being stuck doing endless tasks, and having that two hours in the morning to think and read and ponder and re-center and work on my ongoing sifting through gospel ideas has just really helped my days feel much more purposeful. The book made an important connection because it helped tie spirituality and God back to real life and getting along with people. Before I was living the basics and not breaking any major commandments but I was like this missionary, saying offensive things to people and somewhat sloppy in personal details but not really doing anything completely wrong. Even after serving a mission I never really got in the habit of getting up before 7 AM consistently because I was usually the missionary expected to be enforcing the rules on the Latinos. After a mission I took doing well in school a lot more seriously than personal habits and considered staying up late to study or try an all night-er rather than getting up early because that’s what other students did. When reading the verse in D+C about arising early I excused myself saying that its relative to different people because old people sleep less and circadian rhythms of younger people are different. What I realized in trying this is that forcing myself for that one moment early on gives me much more free time than I ever otherwise would have and that really the value of that time and its effect on the rest of my day outweighs any supposed benefits of sleeping in.

This book is not quite at the same level as the 7 Habits book but nonetheless is an excellent staple in your personal developmen
If you are LDS, this book is essential for gospel founded principles in your family, social, church and work relationships. If you're not LDS, you cannot go wrong in reading this book. How to win friends and influence people is still the all time classic in people skills, but this book complements it superbly. Covey, after all authored the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. This book is not quite at the same level as the 7 Habits book but nonetheless is an excellent staple in your personal development library.15 years ago a friend let me a copy which I read, and it had been on my mind ever since to buy my own copy. Which I now have done.I'm looking forward to reading it again.

Life-Changing Book
Before Stephen R. Covey was Stephen R. Covey, he wrote several books that addressed more spiritual issues. Two of them are among the very few books I feel changed my life. One of them was The Divine Center and the other is this book. Spirituality is an important facet of my life and as such, this book is an excellent guide to incorporating it into my relationships with others. It doesn't make me perfect, but it enables me to see my relationships in a very different way. In addition to being a spiritual guidebook, it is also a practical one as well - which is one of the halmarks of Covey's other works. I recommend this book to anyone looking to enhance the quality of their relationships.

Excellent practical reference for improving family relationships
Suggest for anyone who wants to improve their communications ability or relationship in marriage and family or otherwise....as it has religious references, it probably would be best for member of The Church of Jesus Christ of LatterdaySaints or other Christian religions; however, it is right on key and it would be good for anyone serious about improving relationships who would not adverse to such reverences. Every thing he says in the book is true.

Precursor to many other of his books
This is a great book, I listened to it on tape several times and so when I saw it I had to buy it. This book is amazing and covers what many of his other books do. This is the one that started it all and should be read by all who enjoy his books. Note: this has an LDS flair to it, which is the reason I bought it.

Incredible well written and so helpful for anyone who will read it.
I bought this now out of print book for a family member. It is one of the most comprehensive and well written text on relationship issues. I was so thrilled to find this and now it can help others who are trying to make sense of relationship issues. I particularly love Chapter 14 which deals with rebuilding shattered relationships and learning how to avoid the pitfalls early on and avoid problems that can follow.

Great book, copy not as described.
This book was supposed to be in “very good/like new” condition. The binding and the cover are in pretty good shape, but the book has a ton of underlining in it. Still not a bad price, but I wish it had been listed as is.

Learn where the 7 Habits came from!
I am a great fan of Dr Stephen R Covey, and so I buy his older works to see how his ideas developed. This book, published in 1970, was essentially written for his church (LDS), but don't let that put you off (although why that should I don't know).I have now seen how his philosophies 'started', seen their origins and discovered how much thought has gone into what developed between 1970 and 2011 with his publishing of The 3rd Alternative.Spend a couple of pounds and discover where Dr Covey "came from", more about him, and how he was able to educate people in a way that millions have found to be incredibly effective. It may only be academic research but it's worth the time.
