How to Talk About Climate Change in a Way That Makes a Difference

Insightful and helpful to start the conversation.
This was helpful to me as one who has attempted talking to others about climate change, with what felt like, limited success. Provides much to think about and useful advice when you become determined to speak with others. An important book. The science is in, but understanding how humans operate and getting them to wake up and act for their own survival, that's what we need to understand now.

A timely and important book
Rebecca Huntley has written a book that is both timely and important. It's free of all the usual heavy science associated with such books and rather focusses on what the climate advocate needs to know and say if they are to make a difference in advancing their concerns about climate change.Having read hundreds of depressing (alarming) books about the climate, Huntley's book is refreshing, entertaining, important and, as mentioned earlier, timely. It's a good read.

Timely, engaging, and oh so important
Did you know that young adolescents who learn about climate change and know what's needed can be remarkably effective in changing the attitudes of their skeptical parents? That daughters are even more effective than sons? That the most strongly skeptical parents make the largest change in attitudes? Huntley mixes research findings like those with engaging anecdotes to write a compelling and highly engaging book. The chapters range from anger through denial and despair to hope and love--the full range of emotions relevant for thinking about our responses to climate change that is happening now and is sure to worsen in the near future. How can we persuade others to join us in demanding of our leaders the urgent and sweeping actions we need, if our children are to have a future? This is no raging polemic, but a clear and careful discussion of the full range of feelings and doubts and fears that people have, and ways to help us all do better and feel better. Talk with everyone around you, find local issues, join with others, get active, do what seems best in your own situation. This is a highly important book, strongly recommended.Geoff Cumming, Emeritus Professor, Psychology, La Trobe University

A great tool to change the biggest source of emissions: people!
This a fantastic, methodical but simple read on the underlying problems stopping us from people taking climate change. From the emotions people have, the identity conflicts that may be caused from taking action, to how we personally can wrestle of being imperfect creatures in a far more imperfect world, Huntley help empower us all to do one of the most important, zero-cost and scalable solutions in the climate action arsenal: engage others.Read with a highlighter to make sure you capture all the great references, quotes and statistics!

Emotional appeal not just facts
Very informative for someone with a science background who thought that scientific proof is all that is needed.
