Good material

I'm a diehard Durutti Column fan, but I had no idea this recording existed until I found a CD in a secondhand shop recently. What a stroke of luck? And the better news is that this is very good album, one that should please fans of DC and their guitar maestro Vini Reilly.As Amazon's main product description tells you, this recording is actually the original soundtrack to a theatre production of the same name. Most of the music follows the standard Durutti Column template; Vini's distinctively atmospheric guitar work laden with effects and the dependable clank of the drum machines. There is also those trademark "buried vocals", sounding like someone singing from the depths of a deep well. What can you say? I love it? The only odd twist is the two-part "Stupid Steppenwolf" that adds a scratchy repeated vocal loop throughout the piece, creating an almost hip-hopish arrangement. i found it annoying at first, but came to like it after a few listens.This may not qualify as an essential entry in the Durutti Column canon, but I think it's a keeper nonetheless. Over 60 minutes of Vini Reilly's creative genius let loose. I'd say that's worthy of your time!
