Rawlings High Visibility PWMX Wire Baseball/Softball Umpire Mask

I umpire high level Travel Softball and high school baseball. At the height of the season I'm umping 9 games a week sometimes. This mask is a little heavy for a beginner umpire. It's solid as a rock and can take serious 90 mph fast balls but it's a heavy mask. I did have to get a light weight professional mask but I still use this mask for a back-up. I'm sure a catcher can use this mask for every game without any issues because your neck gets a rest between innings. Umpires, however, have to wear this mask the whole game I would suggest getting a mask that is not as heavy. Sooner or later your neck muscles will get used to this mask but why go though the nick pain while your muscles get stronger.

I returned this item and bought a different mask and I'm updating my review.If you have about $60, skip this and get the Diamond mask I've linked to below. Very worth it. You're going to be wearing this thing to protect your face, and if it's uncomfortable you're less likely to actually wear it.If you really just want an inexpensive mask that will protect your face while catching for your kid or something, this mask will do that. But here's the problem: it feels OK when you first put it on, but in actual use it's uncomfortable:- It is heavy, and sits on the front of your face, so that weight levers out to put more strain on your neck as you move your head around. I underestimated how important weight would be, even for 20-minute stretches.- The padding is vinyl and does not breathe or absorb moisture, so you end up with a sweaty wet chin. That is not a nice feeling. I umpired a game in this mask, in 60-degree weather, and had to wipe my chin every 2-3 pitches.- I could not make the straps create a good fit. It's supposed to be a little loose so the mask will move it a ball strikes it, but it just felt stupid. When I put on the Diamond mask (below) it felt perfect. YMMV.Bottom line: Many dads (and moms!) won't buy a mask until they come close to taking a ball on the chin. That was me. So this is a start towards protecting your mug. This is the third one of these I have had over the years first with fast pitch and now with modified softball. They have held up well and only needed to be replaced due to someone else believing they could not live without one. A little on the heavy side for some, but it works the neck muscles. It is possible to use this mask with glasses.

Use for catching my sons pitching in back yard. It is a little heavy, but u can get used to it if ur neck it strong. U will sweat in this unit as well. But it works fine for me with the kid pitching and a cap on backwards. I am good using this mask.

Nice protection features and while heavier than the “light weight “ masks, still able to use with my 70 year old neck.

I knew that this could have been heavy, but not so much.Visibility is great and used with an helmet, it compensate the weight on your face.But if you "need" to wear it alone, forget to be able to wear it for more than 15-20 minutes. It will "break" your neck!By the way, it's well made.Straps are just ok.

Great fit, good visibility. Pads are very soft. A little heavy but not too noticeable after wearing it a little while.

Muy buena careta en cuanto acabado y presentación, solo que está algo pesada para el trabajo normal del catcher.

La máscara se ve muy bien y es de muy buena calidad, pero tal como se menciona en otros comentarios, es muy pesada. Terminé regresándola.

La calidad de los materiales de la careta son buenos solo que es pesada, aunque tambien te puede servir para la estabilidad.
