Paul McCartney: All The Songs

This is a strange one for sure. Most authors taking the trouble to write such a hefty tome, will be ardent fans, or at least very favourably disposed to their subject.In this case, we have an author who appears ambivalent, and at times, hostile. What is his motivation? He certainly knows his subject; literally everything Macca has recorded is covered, and rated, and in some cases, his ratings are spot on. However, there's something of a sarcastic put down tone to his writing which grates, and he has a low opinion of the majority of Paul's early songs- though less harsh on the more recent songs. The analysis of the songs is also more superficial than other books of this type. Overall though, I wonder whether the book is written by the wrong author. No-one wants sycophantic gushing reviews of every song, but super critical doesn't work either. Probably best avoided if you a keen Macca fan as this work will likely upset you. I originally gave it 2 stars, but that was harsh. Have re-read it and upgraded by 1. I still think the book is too critical for comfort.

This book begs the question: why write a book about someone who's music you don't particularly like, and clearly don't respect as a person either.I do agree that Paul missed the target with a few songs, but I would suggest Mr. Swan actually listens to Mr. McCartney's back catalogue of albums more than once before publishing a hatchet job!... Not recommended for music lovers.

Don't bother with this book. He's obviously just out to do a hatchet job of McCartney and is no fan. No stars.

El peor libro sobre Paul McCartney en el mercado! Continuo a llorar por mi dinero! Es como si el autor se estubiera a reir de todos los que compramos este horrible libro! Yo se que no todo el trabajo que McCartney produjo hasta hoy es excelente, pero a este no le gusta nada del trabajo de McCartney! A el no le gusta McCartney, entonces qual es el interes de hacer este libro!!! Parece que fue mandado por la Yoko! No lo recomiendo a nadie mucho menos a los fans de McCartney!
