best book yet
This series gets better with each book. Book 3 was insanely well written and so was this one. The mysteries are little puzzles that are complicated enough but still make sense. That’s proof of a great writer

Not the best in the series
Detective Constable Emma Bellamy is the only detective in London's Supe Squad, a misfit group who police crimes involving the supernatural community. She recently discovered that she is a Phoenix supernatural herself, she miraculously comes back to life 12 hours after being killed, and she's been killed a lot! When she was five years old her parents were brutally murdered in a small village in Kent, Emma has always been curious about their deaths, were they also Phoenix supes? And if so, why didn't they resurrect? When a man is murdered in the same village, by what appears to be a supernatural creature, Emma's boss orders her to take a week's holiday to 'help' the local force in an unofficial capacity. But Emma's arrival seems to trigger a series of further brutal murders, including her own! They all somehow seem to tie back to her parents' murder but is the murderer a human or a supe?I have really enjoyed this series so far but I have to say taking the action out of London to a small village in Kent seemed to slow the pace down too much. Also, for me, the supernatural element was at one and the same time rather unbelievable and also something I had read before (the plot I think not the actual creature). The final nail in the coffin was that I also guessed the perpetrator very early on, because yet again it was something I had read before. So, all together now, I liked it but I didn't love it.

Brilliant
Thank you so much for this series, i have loved all of them.the fourth especially as I live in Kent, not far from the places in the book.I truly love not having to cringe at the grammar usually found in books due to the American version of English.I totally recommend you read these books, clear you diary you won't be able to stop once you start!

So so brilliant!
Fourth in the series and because I am loving this series of brilliant books and I do not want to finish them. This story had so many twists and turns and a dramatic climax that had me gripped. I have really enjoyed these books and reluctantly start the final book with excitement and sadness that it’s the final one. I recommend these books to anyone with a love of the supernatural and intrigue.

a five-star read that will burn your heart and soul to the core
Scorched Heart by Helen Harper a five-star read that will burn your heart and soul to the core. This is number four in the Firebrand series and is set at the same time as the first book in the Wolfbrand series, but you don’t need to have read that one first, but if you have it just makes you chuckle like you are gossiping with an old friend laughing at what’s going on at work while you are away, even if you aren’t away on a holiday. This story has it all, drama and scare, killers on the loose, but most of all it has hints of the history behind Emma and how she became the Phoenix, will she finally find the truth about what happened to her parents? I cannot tell you as you really need to read the story, and what a story. It will have you on the end of your seat, and crossing everything that Lukas is okay, every blooming time. Do not miss this story as the series just gets better and better.

Fabulous continuation… can’t wait for the next book!
I absolutely love this series. Emma is everything I’d like to be. Strong, confident, capable, open minded and a natural leader. I love how her relationship with Lukas has developed - and I love the world building and motley crew of supporters that surround Emma every step of the way. Finding out more about her background and why she is so unusual was great, and I am now tapping my fingers waiting for book 5 to see where we will go from here! PS Loving the spin-off with Devereau as well!

Great story
I think I must have missed a book somewhere so really need to catch up on this story. Emma has continued with her job as she seems to have adjusted being a Phoenix and knowing each time she is killed and rises again she gets more powerful. This is a particularly personal case this time for her, as she is taken back to the village in which she was a child. We find out about the mystery regarding her parents death and as more murders occur Emma realises she is being played with by the murderer. Surrounded by people who knew her as a child and supported by an enlightened detective, Emma investigates leads left for her which could eventually lead to the murderer, but not before the Phoenix has to arise once again.
