Brilliant design, excellent kettle for pour-over coffee, and even for tea
This is a truly outstanding and innovative product. Its design, including the special handle shape, is ideal for making pour-over coffee. There are other kettles having similar designs, but the great extra on this one is the built-in thermometer. It is very easy to get the temperature exactly right. I also use it for tea. Different types of tea need different brewing temperatures. Previously I have used a separate thermometer for getting the correct temperature. The process is much easier with this kettle. The water heats to the correct temperature considerably faster on an electric stove than I had expected, and much faster than in any other kettle or container that I have used. It isn't as fast as a microwave, of course, but it is surprisingly close, and getting the right temperature using a microwave is a bit of a chore. I haven't had any problems with the handle getting hot. The handle position is well away from the body of the kettle, which decreases the possibility of burning your fingers. My slight quibble is that the lid might fall out when you are holding the kettle up to pour out the last bit of water. But I found a simple solution. I put one finger of my other hand on top of the thermometer, which I haven't found to be too hot, to hold the lid in place, being careful to avoid the little holes where the steam comes out.I am delighted with this kettle, and I highly recommend it, especially for pour-over coffee, but also for tea and other beverages that are best when brewed at exactly the right temperature.

Perfect for Making Tea
I use this "Coffee Gator" Kettle with Thermometer exclusively to make tea.The stainless steel is thin, which is a good thing, because that means it heats up fast. The kettle is very well-constructed, and the thermometer is extremely accurate.(As soon as it measures 212 F, the water starts to boil in that same instant). The kettle holds enough water to make one very large mug (16 to 18 ounces),or to make two more standard-size cups (8 to 9 ounces each) of tea or coffee, while still leaving enough empty space on top of the kettle to allow for theboiling and steaming of the water, without any spill-over. There is a vent in the topto allow steam to escape, but the kettle does not "whistle"... it merely hissesa bit and the top rattles slightly when the water boils. It takes about 4 minutes to boil that much water in this kettle, which isjust slightly longer than it would take in a high-powered microwave toboil that much water. One thing I really love about this kettle, is that the only thing whichever comes into physical contact with the water is stainless steel. There is absolutely no plastic or PBA or gaskets or seals or epoxy or resinsor glues or anything else that can break-down over time and dissolveinto your boiling water. Only stainless steel touches your water. This provides a more pure water for your hot beverage every time. The design of this little personal-sized kettle is beautifully simpleand perfectly effective. The spout connects very near the bottom, making it easier to pour, and the opening of the spout is very narrow, eliminating any possibility of splashing and making it easier to be preciseand slow in pouring the water over your tea leaves or tea bags or coffee beans. The top, while easily removable simply by lifting it up, is nevertheless secure and will not fall-out when pouring, unless the kettle is titled to more than 90 degrees(which is absolutely unnecesary to ever do when pouring out the hot water). The opening is big enough to get your hand in there with a scrub pad tooccasionally clean the inside as needed. Also, while this may be obvious, it bears pointing out: this kettle is stainless steel, rather than glass or ceramic, and so if you drop it, it is unlikely to breakor to be damaged... so that's another advantage.None of the many faults that other kettles have are present in this kettle. It is hard to imagine a better design.

Great little kettle. Worth every penny.
I thought it was ridiculous to pay this much money for a silly little kettle. I read the reviews that said the same item with different maker brands were much cheaper, but since I was ordering the other coffee gator items and pour overs, I went ahead and ordered this. I actually love it and have no problem having paid that for this. Here are the reasons this is a great kettle:1. The thermometer is awesome and doesn't ever get in the way. When I'm making my coffee first thing in the morning and I don't have my glasses on, I could never think about reading the tiny numbers on the thermometer, but the right temp. is highlighted in green and when the red temp. gauge gets there, it's very easy to see.2. The handle is perfect. I love the way the handle is shaped tilting outward so your hand just slides right in and has no danger of getting burned on the metal pot. Kettle users know how important that is!3. The spout is perfect. The spout is low enough that if you only boil 8 ounces of water, you can still pour it out without being burned by having to tip the whole kettle upside down. Pours perfectly whether it's full or almost empty. And the width of the spout is terrific. Flows at exactly the right speed for coffee or tea.4. Size of the pot. The bottom of the pot is exactly the size of a small burner so again, you don't get burned by a small pot not fitting correctly on the stove.I love gadgets and have a whole lot of them that end up getting tossed into the Goodwill box, but this one won't be one of them. This is an extremely well thought out little piece of equipment and will be in my "favorites" pile for a long time. I love it! Truly is worth every penny. I didn't set out to order it; I set out to order the Coffee Gator pour overs (hint: if you order one of those, get a gram scale) and ordered the kettle on a whim, and I'm sure glad I did. In fact, I'm so happy with that that I might try their coffee canister next. It's pricey and gadgety but if it's as good as the kettle it's sure worth a shot.

The media could not be loaded.

chemical smell and defective thermometer lid
I first bought the hario buono kettle, locally but, it didn't have a thermometer lid like the coffee gator kettle has. There are 2 issues with this kettle, firstly water got trapped into the thermometer lid (coffee gator is sending me a replacement lid) and secondly, the inside of the kettle has this chemical smell that won't go away. I have prepped the kettle as per the instructions that were given, boiling water in it twice the first day i received it. The smell was still there after prepping it so, I thought the odor would go away after using it for a while but, that wasn't the case. So, then I did the prep (fill kettle with water and bring to a boil, then empty kettle) twice more but, this time I poured more water into the kettle; the smell still didn't go away. I gave up and, threw away the kettle. If you buy this kettle please make sure to smell the inside of it and that it doesn't have a chemical odor to it.Update - October 30thThey sent me a new kettle with a new thermometer lid and this kettle is odorless. The thermometer encasing has no water or steam stuck inside of it after cleaning and using. So far so good.
