Shades your eyes and face - a year later
I like this hat. It is made pretty sturdy, and not only keeps the sun, bugs and rain out of your face and off your neck, it also looks good. I purchased this hat to protect my head and face when I am out in the sun cutting the grass or doing my gardening. I burn fairly easy, and was looking for a hat to replace the scarf I wear under my baseball hat to protect me from burning as well as keep sweat from dripping down my face and into my eyes. The sweatband helped a lot. The bill of the hat is large enough that I don't have to wear sunglasses. It shades my eyes perfectly, and it's not easy to bend out of shape. My only complaint is that I found the flap a little on the short side and the material to be very stiff. It wouldn't lay flat enough, or hug my neck without feeling like I had a piece of cardboard rubbing against the back of my head. But that didn't deter me from wearing it while doing my outside chores. I just rolled the ends up a little (like a scarf) and my work shirt collar didn't "rub" against it, which stopped the "irritant" sensation I had while wearing it unfolded. I hope over time the material will soften or give a little, which would solve this problem. I also found the hat to fit like a cap, almost a little too tight. Without much give, the tight fit might be a problem for some people. Since the back of the hat has only a piece of elastic puckering across the middle, I was able to snip a small piece of the elastic band to "loosen" it up. It still fits snug, but it doesn't feel as constricting as it did before I made the cut through the material. It has been almost a year since I began wearing this hat and I wanted to address the "stiffness" issue I had when this hat was new. After repeated "cold water" washes and "air dry" sitting the cap over a plastic jug to maintain its shape (you can also invest in a plastic cap frame if you want to spend more money) I have found that it has softened a little. Not as much as I would still like, but an improvement over time. The flap isn't as stiff and doesn't irritate my neck as much. I have also found that the cap has loosened up and doesn't feel as snug as I first reported (still not too loose to fly off my head, just not as "vice-grip" tight as originally worn). Since the hat is getting softer and wearing well with age, I am now giving it 5-stars.

Very pleased with this hat
I recently read a blogger's account about getting Mohs surgery to remove a skin cancer. I'd already had a baseball cap that I'd used for many years while running, but I wanted something that would offer some protection for the back of my head and neck. I've been using the flap cap for a couple of weeks now, and I'm very pleased with it. The flap fabric is lightweight, so the hat is not much warmer than a regular baseball cap, a real plus in the summer. I do find that the flaps reduce my hearing very, very slightly, so you should bear that in mind if you're using it someplace where you need to hear what's going on around you, like if you're running along a road and need to hear cars approaching. I just turned down the volume on my mp3 player to compensate. The hat's been through the wash once and seems to have held up well. Really, I wish I'd been using something like this all along.

Great for my wife...
This hat is made well and is a little smaller all around than most of the similar hats sold on Amazon. It has an elastic adjustment for head size. It fits my wife very well, probably a little less than 7 inches. I take a little larger size (about 71/4 to 7 3/8) and it will stretch but would give me a headache if I wore it too long. For those of you that care it is made in China.

Wish it was a little bigger
The visor is wide enough to keep the sun off your face, but the hat keeps slipping off my head because of the elastic in the back. The fabric is kind of thin, but that might be a good thing in the heat. When I pull the hat down to make it stay on it pinches my ears. It is a cute hat if you like to take walks in the sun.

Not Functional in the Wind
Unlike some of its competitors, the flap is sufficiently thick and rugged that it would serve its primary purpose of shading the back of the neck from the sun, but it blows in the wind, thereby exposing the back of the neck to the sunlight it is supposed to be shading, especially at and over the water, where the wind tends to blow more vigorously than inland. So I had to give it an overall rating of less than satisfactory. The addition of snaps on each side of the front of the flap would allow the additional of a removable strap to prevent the flap from blowing out of its useful shade zone, and if the additional strap was wide enough, it would also protect the front of the neck, as well.

Perfect Choice
My son is autistic and very anxious about bugs flying around his face. He would cover his ears and run around screaming. Then, he decided he would wear a hooded jacket and quickly become a sweaty mess. This hat was the greatest compromise. It provides the shade of a ballcap, the sun protection, and covers his ears from the bugs flying around.

Great cap that provides sun protection for the back of ...
Great cap that provides sun protection for the back of your neck. I noticed that the design also block off sound so I have a problem hearing when the back flap is down. For that reason I am giving it a 4 star

good sun protection
I wish I didn't need this, but after living in Arizona for 17 years and not being careful with sunscreen, I do. If you have to have a dorky anti-sun hat, this is a good one at a great price.

Flap too long
The flap is a little too long. That makes it a little too warm for summer use. I'll give it to a friend who needs his ears protected from the sun. I'll look for a similar style but with a shorter flap. Price and delivery were great.

Very good hat
Works well. The flap helped block off the sun, and fence off the bugs off your neck.Decent quality in both workmanship and material. A very good value and compared well with some more well known labels that cost quite a bit more.

It's Good for the Money
I knew it wouldn't be of the best quality since so inexpensive. It's okay though so if I lose it, I feel I didn't waste much money.

Well Made But Small
I believe this is a one size fits all and my husband usually wears a small hat. It should fit with ample room but is tight. Other than that, it is well made.

to khaki or camouflage
I cannot be enthusiastic as I did not want no way khaki and to make matters worse it doesn't fit appropriately tho my hat size is large. I should've returned it because it is not particularly flattering in appearances either.
