Fantastic!
This is a very good book! I would highly recommend it to all parents and teachers of young children. This story teaches a lesson to children about not talking to strangers, accepting candy from strangers, or walking away with strangers. The story and pictures are excellent. In the back of a book there is an informative fact section about stranger danger and how kids should deal with certain situations. The book is fun and entertaining, but at the same time serious and even sad. My first grade students loved this story and it provoked a very good and serious discussion on stranger danger.

The Story of the Sly Fox and The Chicks
I am a teacher and ordered this product for my class. I needed to present a book that would teach the students about strangers and being aware of the dangers of talking to strangers. I used it to help talk about strangers during the first week of safe environment. I couldn't find it any where local, so I tried on line and was successful finding it on line at Amazon.com.

~~ A hard lesson learned about the dangers of talking to strangers ~~
Sly Fox is hungry for chicks! Papa Rooster and Mama Hen have told their children to stay away from the sly fox. Clucky always says he will never talk to strangers however we all know how sly a fox i.e. stranger can be. Finding a lamb skin the sly old fox dresses up. Even Gruffy the dog is fooled, going back to sleep. Clucky keeps his word and does not talk to the fox but Penny, his sister, does! Admittedly she tells him that they don't talk to strangers but as the author points out and as you listen to the story, at first the chicks run from the fox then as he continues to come back daily the "threat" dissipates. It is not many days before Penny and her two friends are following the fox to where there is more delicious corn after accepting some kernels (i.e. sweets) from the fox.Well-written in a large font and delightfully illustrated. For those who want to know, this story does NOT have a happy ending for everyone but a VERY valuable lesson that needs to be learned. At the end of the book there is a "fact" double spread on talking to strangers asking the questions:>>What do strangers look like?>>Who are strangers?>>Tricks strangers played, linked to the tricks of the sly fox.>>Private parts - delicately written describing the private parts as those hidden by your swimsuitHighly recommend this for young ones. Our son was given this book for his 6th birthday but there was no obligation to write a review. Thanks, Liz

A "stranger danger" story for children.
It's unfortunate, but the world we live in today can be scary, cruel, and tricky to children. Parents should take every opportunity to discuss child safety with their children, even as young as 3 years old. There are many ways to discuss dangerous people and situations, without making them feel threatened or scared. The book, "The Sly Fox and the Chicks," by Carl Sommer, is about a family of chicks who are told "Never talk to strangers, even if they are friendly." Unfortunately, a couple of the chicks do not heed this warning, and end up being eaten by a sly fox in a lamb's disguise. This story uses a simple concept to teach children about "stranger danger." The story is easy to understand, but parents should be aware that there is more to discussing child safety with their children than "never talk to strangers." Children should understand what makes someone a stranger. Parents should also practice "what if" situations with their children. Give them the answers on what to do if they ever encounter dangerous situations. Child safety learning should become an integrated part of your child's everyday life.MyParenTime.com recommends this book -- although my daughter and I would have rathered the two chicks would have disappeared somehow instead of being eaten...it just left a bad taste in our mouths :). Despite this, children will definitely get something out of this story. Parents can expand on it without scaring. Help children stay better prepared with the power of knowledge :).

Don't Talk To Strangers-No Matter What!
This book will be a valuable way to introduce the hard lesson of not trusting strangers. Our children and students need to learn this early in life and Sommer allows them to do this through this story. There are learning tools in the end of the book that help teachers and parents provide a life long lesson to any child. The questions cause children to use higher level thinking skills and it will teach children to make right and safe choices in life. Sommer uses a familiar concept of the "big bad wolf" that has long been forgotten in this decade. Get this one quick-you can never teach this too early.
