Trouble free and a great value
So why has it taken me 17 years to write and submit this review? Housecleaning. You know, the sort of housecleaning you put off for a day and the next thing you know it's 100 years later, that sort of housecleaning... well, not exactly.Truth be told, I'm housecleaning my email inbox as I've received a few alerts from Amazon telling me that a number of my reviews from over the years have proven beneficial to members of the buying public. Letting those alerts clutter my inbox does no one any good, that, in conjunction with an ever-growing list of products purchased from Amazon have prompted me to see whether I might help others with reviews of purchases I've found useful, reliable, enjoyable, etc.I believe the Internet is awash with fan opinions about all manner of entertainment so I tend to leave reviews of products like music on CD or TV and movies released on DVD to fans of each. The only time I'm likely to consider commenting on such products is when they fall short technically, otherwise, any informed consumer knows what to expect. It has been my experience that Amazon does a great job marketing such products and fulfilling orders for same. What brought me to voice my thoughts about Macware MacFonts is my reliance on customer feedback, my dependence on ratings and reviews when buying from a virtual store, that, and a few comments made by others.I've been a Mac user for 33 years. I remember the early days when font options were few and far between. As a graphic designer, one who has been called on throughout my career to develop corporate, organizational and personal logos, having a well stocked and diverse font library is critical to offering just the right look. Sure, there are some downright crazy fonts included with some collections, ones I'll NEVER use, BUT the ratio of throwaway to indispensable fonts is very low with Macware MacFonts, making them a smart buy.I've carried these fonts over from one Mac to the next for the last 17 years and I expect I will continue to do so. The same is true of ones I've owned longer than that. My first Mac was a Classic, running OS 6.03. Since then, having used Macware fonts with apps like InDesign, PhotoShop, Photoshop Elements, TextEdit, Pages, Keynote and more, I can honestly say I've never experienced any trouble with them. This particular collection is but one of three by Macware that I've acquired over the years and installed on each new Mac along the way which is to say compatibility concerns from one OS to the next need not deter a new Mac user from considering what may appear to be older or obsolete font collections. While font installation methods can vary from OS to OS, while the look of a given font may go out of style aesthetically only to come back into style at some later date, digitally speaking, fonts are like core system files... they never really go out of style, so don't let a few ugly duckling fonts stop you from picking up a wealth of others with more elegant and timeless attributes.

Not worth it
It did not mention that these fonts would only work on your own computer, I wanted to use these to make signs for school but they will not work in a .pdf. Would not buy this product again, have removed them from my computer since they are a waste of time.

Deceptive description
Just got the MacFonts and opened the package to find no printed guide. I tried to install the included software (FontManager), but it would not install on my newer Intel MAC. Got a message that said that the older software would not run on it. The description that Amazon gives says they are OpenType fonts. What it says on the package is that they are TrueType fonts. Not as good as OpenType.I guess for the price, I should not complain, but it would be nice if they give you what is advertised.

Collects a bunch of freeware fonts.
MacFonts basically collects a bunch of freeware fonts on CD and gives you a printed guide. There is also a PDF guide on the CD that you can grab. The software covers the same ground as FontBook, so I didn't explore it much. The CD has a wide variety of fonts, but they're mostly the same ones that you can pull off free font websites. All of them loaded without a glitch. The majority are display fonts, but it also has a handful of serif and sans serif fonts, scripts, dingbats and a bunch of black letter and unical fonts. Nothing on this disk is as well-crafted or fussed over as the fonts you can buy from a type house. However, for less than the price of most professional fonts, MacFonts gives you an instant collection of more fonts than you'll actually use.

Very unhappy with this product - did not work and the web address to register the product was not even live -the dates on the files are back in 2004 and this claims to be able to work with OS 10 - don't bother purchasing
