I just spray it on my skin and hair before I go outside. It works really well to keep gnats away. I'm not sure if it works for mosquitoes though.

Q: whats the shelf life of this product?

I’m not sure but it didn’t work well for us

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS Essential Oils. 2.11% Other Ingredients 97.89% This plant-based formula contains no DEET or alcohol.

Q: Would this be effective to spray on garbage cans to keep flies away?

While it is great for gnats, I would not choose to use it for garbage cans. Other products would be better for thst I think.
