Great value. Not just for kids.
Overall, I am super happy with these radios. The comparable Motorola model T380 is over 4x the price. I bought these as alternative to my Motorola MS350R's that had proved too cumbersome for hiking. These guys have similar functionality and performance at half the size and weight. I verified the performance side-by-side with the Motorola's and they both max'ed out at around 1/2 mile in a suburban area.Looking at the FCC docs for these radios, I see that they provide a full 2 watts when transmitting on the appropriate channels. Some of the other cheap radios only output 0.2 watts. I also appreciate that these use li-ion batteries and can be quickly charged using a phone charger or power bank if needed. These radios also support limited programming of channels and frequencies using a cable (not provided) and software (available on request from Radioddity.com). While this isn't needed to use these radios, for the tinkerers it can be an interesting option. On the negative side, while the 22 channels numbers correspond to the standard FRS frequencies, the CTCSS and DCS codes do not. This means that it's not straight-forward to pick the code that will work with radios of other brands. The user manual has a list of the codes but I found that the manual may not be correct. Nevertheless, with some trial and error, I got the these radios talking to the Motorola's in privacy mode. The Amazon description says that these radios are waterproof. I doubt that. There is no mention anywhere else of these radios in the context of water. They may be splash proof, but will they survive an hour of torrential rain? I will find out at some point. The radios supports NOAA WX weather stations, but not weather alerts. When I select any of the WX channels there is silence. Some other reviewer mentioned that the radio squelch was set too high (at 3) for the WX channels, and when he reduced it, it worked fine. The only way to adjust the squelch is to get a programming cable and use the software. Without doing this, weather channels may not be available. I used this method to set the radio squelch to 2 and NOAA channels work now. Oddly, though, one radio picks up the WX channels better than the other.

Good radios, poor battery shelf life
These are good little radios with good distance and good sound quality. Their weak point is the battery. They last long enough when in use - no complaints there. But they take a long time to charge over micro-USB, and they will drain to empty when powered off and left on the shelf for a week or two. This means you must always charge them before using, which takes a few hours, so you need to plan ahead. I tried removing the batteries from the radio before storage, and that did not seem to help keep them from draining.

Good product. Even better customer service
These radios are used at a volunteer run farm which provides produce for food insecure families. They help us to communicate with volunteers remotely and improve our efficiency. When one of our radios did not charge properly, I contacted the company and received a reply within 24 hours. They asked me for information and then replaced the units no questions asked. These days that is a rare occurrence. Their customer service was excellent and they continued to follow up to ensure we were happy with out purchase

Great Walkies
UPDATE: I felt like I learned some new info that was important to share. My grandkids figured out how to change the channels on the walkies themseles, my kiddos are 7, 9 and 11. Another testament to the fact that these are easy to program. What I learned though is that when they changed the channel they landed on a channel being used by truck drivers in our area. They could hear them talking. (I did tell them they weren't allowed to ever talk to anyone else) The nearest highway is about 2 1/2 miles away. And because of how rural the area we live in is, I know this is the only place the chatter could be coming from. So, also new evidence to how good the signal is. I'm still very pleased with these 5 months after purchasing. Ok, so I purchased these at the beginning of December but wanted to wait until we really used them enough before I left a review. First, let me say I am SO happy with them. We live on a 20 acre ranch and I have 3 grandkids who love to go out and play. I know they're safe from anyone getting on the property because it is 6ft high fenced with barbed wire at the top so that was not my concern. What I worry about is that they like to climb trees and explore. I was concerned about one of them getting hurt and having to run all the way back to the house to tell me so I thought walkies would be a great idea and they have been! So now on the performance. I read many reviews about signal issues, battery issues etc. Let me tell you they have had ZERO issues. We use them regularly, almost daily. So let me touch on the important points. Programming: I didn't even look for instructions I simply started pushing buttons and VERY easily was able to program them to the same channel. Battery Life: I know some said they drain after sitting for a few days. I have most definitely NOT found this to be true. We mostly use them daily but there are times where they have sat for up to 4 or more days and there was NO battery drain. Also when they are in use they will be turned on for several hours at times and still maintain almost a full charge. After using them for several days in a row I decide to recharge them just to be safe but they are no where near dying. So GREAT batteries. Distance (super important) as I stated we live on a large ranch. I have had my grandkids be approximately 4 football fields or greater away from the house and the signal is still perfect. No static and crystal clear sound. I read reviews on SO many walkies before deciding on these and I am beyond pleased that I chose these. Thank you Radioddity you sell an awesome product and I would MOST DEFINITELY recommend these!

Good radio with a good range for the price
We bought a set of these radios for my son and he and his friends are able to use them over a mile apart. The battery went bad on one of them but their customer support was quickly responsive and provide a complete replacement set of radios with a few days.
