Fantasy Creatures: The Ultimate Guide to Mastering Digital Painting Techniques (ImagineFX) Paperback – August 2, 2011

There are some examples that I liked more than others, but the book is a good resource for digital coloring and painting methods. As I stated elsewhere, this book works best when paired with "Essence:Creatures" or any other sci-fi/fantasy/horror-themed digital painting books. For those who may subscribe to Imagine FX Magazine, there's nothing new here unless you're a recent subscriber or you're discovering it for the very first time. As with most of these books, those who have some artistic skill will get the most inspiration from this book. However, it's not inaccessible to beginners. Most of all, this book is available for a price that won't break the bank--especially if you get it from Amazon like I did.

I am a digital artist and I am always looking to learn new techniques. This book deals a lot with Photoshop, which is not my Software of choice, but the examples are great and I don't have a problem substituting Corel Painter and Gimp to get the artwork completed.

Very helpful and insightful.

I bought this hoping it would show you how to do detailed features for fantasy creatures such as scales, feathers, claws/teeth, eyes etc, but it is just a reference book from other artist on pieces of work they've done. it does go through each step that they went through but merely the process that was going on in their head. i.e. 'I spent a lot of time on the mermaids tail and eventually it got too detailed that it took the attention away from the main focal point 'The reason why I gave this a 4 star is because, as an artist it can help me with the process of pictures and reminding me of the main points of creating a picture and avoid certain pitfalls.

This book is a good source of inspiration. It has some step by step work also. Many tips from expert professionals and ImagineFX quality standards.Honestly I expected something a little bit better or maybe my expectations where too high.Still a good book.

Let me start off by saying that this book is a real gem! It is split to six categories:1) Faeries, fables and friendly giants2) Beasts in 3D3) Vampires and demons4) Myths and monsters5) Alien races6) Creature featuresYou can find in there plenty of useful tips that will sharpen and enrich your creature design skills and help you find your own style in concept art overall. I have to say that this book requires some foundational knowledge. It's the best fit for people who have some experience at drawing. If you want to step into character design and master it, this book is a must for you!

this is a very very good book showing you all the steps on how to make fantastic digital art, I has got a few books now to help with my illustration work but this one is the best so far.

This will give you all the inspiration you need to create your own fantasy creatures from the simple to the most outrageous.
