Great Color! What Fun!!!
I love Splat! Yes, it can be messy but that's because it seems to have the most color in the market. That means you get dark, rich color form the start. If you want color that lasts for about 6 months, follow what I have discovered below. Have fun and good luck!;)1. Bleach your hair to light blonde. Read the *** below for explanation.2. Protect your ears with vaseline, use makeup or creme on your face and neck because this stuff stays!3. Try to only get the dye on your hair (not on your scalp).4. Use gloves while applying the dye but also even while drying your hair to protect your hands from the dye because it will continue to wash out of your hair for the next month or more.5. Keep the dye on your hair for at least 3 hours and it will last longer. Also that's great because it's darker and richer to begin with, and slowly with each washing gets lighter and brighter so that bosses, parents, and friends have awhile to compliment you on it, accept it, and grow used to it.6. Put a plastic bag or other wrap over your head during that time to keep the warmth in. You might even consider using a hot blow dryer over the bag if you want the color to stay super long - 4 - 6 months in your hair.7. Wash out your hair for a minute with water.8. Pour about a cup of vinegar over your hair (that much for hair that goes halfway down your back) in the sink and let it sit 5 minutes.9. Rinse until the water looks almost clear.10. Pat hair dry with a towel.11. Blow dry.12. From now on, tye up your hair when taking a shower. Right before you finish your shower, the last thing you do is wash your hair. Your aim is to keep your hair wet and soaped for the least amount of time possible - this will make the color last months longer. Shampoo only once a week applying shampoo only to the scalp and only one time.***Begin right: You MUST bleach your hair to a LIGHT BLONDE and then use Splat to get the color on the box. Many people think that it's ok to only bleach their hair to orange or yellow. However, if you are using a turquoise (ocean) or blue (envy) Splat, if you add that to yellow hair, you're going to get green hair -that's just how color rules work. And the same goes with Purple Desire - add that to orange or yellow hair and you're going to get a brownish color because that's how color rules work. And if you have dark hair to begin with and you don't bleach it, Splat cannot grab onto the hair follicle so the color will wash out in about 2 shampoos. All unnatural bright colored hair dyes are like this because they are all direct dyes - that means the color does not enter the hair follicle - the color sticks to the outsides of the hair follicle. So when you're in the sun, the sunlight enters your hair follicle lighting it up, and lighting up the Splat that is on the outside of the hair follicle and that produces a very bright color.I receive compliments daily from people about my hair. I like to have several different colors in my hair but I only bleached sections of it. Therefore, my natural brown hair is still part of the equation. When I decide to add a color or refreshen a color, I separate my hair into the sections of colors I want to keep and put those sections of hair into baggies and use hair tyes over the baggies to protect that hair from the new colors that I am applying. The Purple Desire looks just like the photo on the box when you apply it as I described. In the attached photo, you can see Purple Desire as it is when it has brightened up after a couple of months. The red that you see is Splat's Crimson Obsession. The Blue is Splat's Blue Envy at the right towards the bottom after several months. The green is Splat's Deep Emerald after many months. The bright turquoise is Splat's Ocean. The blond and tan are sections that I bleached only partially to add different hues.

I used blue envy all over to keep my highlights looking vibrant and fun. The second time I used purple desire and ...
My hair is currently dyed black with some bleached highlights that I got done at my hairstylist in January. Originally I had her throw some blue on (Pravana brand blue), but it was more of a teal color and I wanted something more dramatic. When my roots grew out, I used blue envy all over to keep my highlights looking vibrant and fun. The second time I used purple desire and I absolutely love this color! I get a few compliments a week on it! I now do this every 3-4 weeks or so and it also keeps my roots looking fresh since my hair is light brown, so the dye works perfectly on unbleached light hair to make it really pop. I have perfected working with this brand of color to minimize color bleeding! Here's what I do to get perfect results with this awesome brand! I wash my hair with clarifying shampoo to cut all of the oil, you can also use dish soap. I fully blow dry my hair and coat my entire face/neck and arms with vaseline. I put down saran wrap on my counters to protect them from dye splatters. I use a dye brush and a little bowl like they use in the salons and I carefully brush on the color but am careful not to touch my scalp with the color because it WILL stain your scalp instantly and will be like that for like a week. The first time I used blue envy and I had a huge dark blue spot on my head for the longest time because I didn't realize it would stain so bad. Also, get some good gloves. Not the cheap kind that comes with the dye, but some gloves for washing dishes. My finger poked through the hole on the gloves it came with and I had a dark blue finger--so don't use those crappy gloves! When I get down to the last bit of dye in the bottle, I mix a splash of warm water and shake, then pour the remaining dye into the bowl. This allows you to get better coverage and ensure that all the dye is used. I leave the color on for a few hours, and then I rinse in COLD water. Leave the Vaseline on your face otherwise it could stain. Leave the gloves on or your hands will be smurf blue. I use color safe shampoo and scrub my head to get some of the color off my head and then rinse again in COLD water. Then I take plain white vinegar (this step is super important), and I pour it all over my head. This seals the cuticle and in my opinion makes the color last longer. I leave on for a few minutes and rinse. Careful not to get that in your eyes-ow! It's stinky but when you rinse out again in COLD water, you will notice very minimal bleeding and the water will almost be clear when you rinse it out. If you do not do this step, you will have a blue neck/blue hands/blue rings on the neck of your shirts. Happy dyeing!

Works great!
My kid wanted purple hair - wish granted. The hair dye kit works great! Be sure to use Vaseline on areas of skin that may get dye on it.

Boxed Splat vs. Packets
Be aware that the boxed Splat and the individual packets behave like two completely different products:Boxed Splat: comes with color, bleach and gloves. Thick, non-drippy; brilliant, long-lasting color.Packet Splat: No bleach or gloves. Consistency is thin and runny. Slides off and get everywhere. Color is bland and doesn't last more than a few days.If you're like I am and use Splat as a highlighter for your dark hair, you'll want to buy the boxed version, but you'll end up with a zillion bottles and packets of toxic peroxide that you don't know how to ethically get rid off. Whoever comes up with a great use for peroxide gets a free box of it! (Shipping not included). The purple is my favorite color. The gentian shade recalls fond childhood memories of mimeograph toner. It blends into my dark brown hair and flashes in the light. I receive a lot of compliments on it! Be sure to use a barrier cream around your hairline, because the stains are difficult to remove.
