The understandable and correct explanation of how to exercise,eat and rest the human body for maximum performance
Every person who has wasted time on fad diets and incomplete exercise systems should own,read and reread this book. The explanation of changing and improving muscle chemistry alone is the most useful information I have ever read on the subject of fitness.The book explains complicated bio-chemistry information in a simple understandable way that anyone can comprehend and use immediately.The basic message of the book is that "teaching" the body to burn fat-not diets is the permanent and easy way to a healthier life.I thought I understood the fundamentals of aerobic and anaerobic exercise and the three energy systems of the body. I did not. And I spent useless time and energy tryng to acheive my weight loss and fitness goals. After reading the book I changed my health/workout regime and at age 71 became a super fit lean- mean muscle machine without going to a gym. Thirty minutes a day,four times a week ( actually every other day) combining a simple whole body resistance movement simutaenouslly with an equally simple aerobic movement accomplishes a very high level of fitness. THINK NINE PERCENT BODY FAT .Buy it,read it and get off the "diet treadmill".

A little outdated but still useful!
While some of the science is a little outdated, this book is full of great tips to living a healthy lifestyle. I have read all of Covert Bailey's books and they all leave me feeling very inspired to better myself

Buying Covert's Smart Exercise Makes Good Sense!
You'd have to be a true idiot not to understand this book. Covert can't make the theory any clearer. In typical Bailey fashion, he takes a complex and involved subject and makes it easy to understand and digest--laced with humor and sound advice. I have a plethora of Covert Bailey books and continue to enjoy and apply them... Smart Exercise updates a number of his earlier works, integrating the new science that has come to light throughout the years he was producing his works and clinic operation. Sadly, there are no new Covert works that I am aware of...Buy it. Addendum: There is a later Bailey work, "The Complete Fit or Fat® Book: The Phenomenal Program that Successfully Guides You from Fatness to Fitness" (Hardcover) written in September 28, 2005 (anywhere from $10.00 to a crazy $185!).

Easy to read and understand concepts
Bailey does a whole lot in making it easier to understand the importance of aerobics

One of best guides to fitness
It is a great book. Although this book is not new, it was published in 1994, it will give you an easy understanding of how energy is found in your body to do your everyday exercise. It is a great choice for those starting out and how to really understand how your body works when it comes to finding fuel to do what you have to do at the gym. Of course, it is recommended to talk to your doctor before you start any exercising. If you want you can try to see if your local library has it and if you like it you can come back here and buy it. Good luck.

SUPER BOOK
This is a great book all around. So many people today try fad diets and other crazy ways to loose weight (e.g. pills). Of course nutrition is important, but so is EXERCISE! Covert Baily realizes this. In this book Covert shows how you can get the greatest benefit out of exercise. I took this book out from the library before I bought it and I was very pleased so I bought it. All in all Covert is very knowledgable about exercise and he gives scientific explanations to prove what he is saying. Take it from a guy who exercises himself (me) - great book!

definitely good information on exercise
I believe Covert Bailey is retired now and not in the public eye, but I am a certified personal trainer, and I can say this is probably my favorite book on Exercise....it's a very practical way of understanding how the body responds to exercise, very helpful indeed!

Amazing book.
Amazing book.. Read it and utilizing the information provided. Get this book if you are either looking to get into shape and lose weight and if you are one of those guys looking to understand how the body gets in shape.Thank you Covert Bailey!

A good read
Informative for sure. There are so many opinions on how best to burn fat but I agree with the author overexertion may not be the answer.

Brilliant read
This book has got to be one of the best books I've read in fitness. It makes sense and by following the way this book was set out really does work.This my friends is a realistic book without all the faddy crap out there.
