Gain 30 IQ Points Overnight!!!!!
Here is the claim (unevaluated by the FDA) for this product:This dietary supplement is designed to enhance cognitive function and physical performance. Acetyl L-Carnitine is similar in form and function to an amino acid. Acetyl L-Carnitine is the acetyl ester of L-Carnitine, and is a source of both L-Carnitine and an acetyl group. In its role as a precursor for the formation of acetylcholine (an important neurotransmitter), this compound help enhance cognitive functions. This nutrient also facilitates the transport of long-chain fatty acids to enable beta-oxidation and energy generation, thus enhancing physical performance. If you choose to believe these extravagant claims (notice the weasel phrases "designed to", "similar in form and function to") which have not been evaluated by the FDA, more power to you. In fact, I feed this to my dog, who has dilated cardiomyopathy. The veterinarian prescribed this to help her cardiac function, on the theory that it can't hurt. I have not noticed that she is discernibly any smarter. Her cardiac ejection fraction and energy level have indeed improved, but that may be more due to the Pemobendan she's also taking. That said, this seems to be a good price for the product, and it arrived intact and ahead of schedule from the vendor.

Shipped fast, very safely packaged
My doctor put me on this. I'm not really sure how to rate it... They use this for cancer and ms patients for increased energy. And for months, yes it did help. I do wonder if it keeps me up at night, making me more tired the next day... But this would not be this brand's fault, it would just be my personal side effect. Also after about 4 months, I started noticing I was extremely irritable, but again this is my personal interaction. Shipped fast, packaged nicely. But before you take this, you might want to talk to your physician. I am ONLY taking this under the advisement of my doctor. I am hoping he takes me off of this at my next appointment.

It Works for Me
It all started when my Diagnostics professor gave us the assignment to watch a video entitled "Numb: the Problem with Anti-Depressants". It was so alarming that I did a search on my anti-depressant to find out the side effects. Side effects? Memory loss. It all made sense ... several months ago I told my Dr how disturbing it was that I was having problems remembering --- not thinking "right". She increased the dosage --- now it made sense that instead of getting better, my memory got worse. My next step was to search forums to find out if other folks had the same issue and if so, how did they deal with it.Apparently quite a few individuals take Acetyl-L-Carnitine. Then, I googled reviews on this amino acid to find out about other people's experiences. It turns out that it is prescribed to Alzheimer's patients and older adults for memory loss.I touched base with my pharmacist and Dr --- I wanted to know whether or not it could be harmful either alone or in combination with my other medications. As a grad student, I was having serious difficulty with the work. I can tell that my brain is working better. I no longer have problems retaining and analyzing information. Of course, I did not immediately attribute the improvement to the Acetyl-L-Carnitine. On the other hand, I cannot think of anything else I have done differently in the last 4-6 weeks that would make a difference.I have been taking 1500mg daily and will continue to do so. It was worth the risk. However, it is critical to consult professionals familiar with your unique medical issues before moving forward.

1 Star for Weight Loss and 5 Stars for Brain Health
This product is Acetyl L-Carnitine.What is the Difference Between L-Carnitine and Acetyl L-Carnitine?A concise answer from Swanson Vitamins: They are two different forms of the same Amino Acid, but they work differently. The L-Carnitine helps the body convert fat into energy, so it's typically used by people who are exercising and/or trying to lose weight. The Acetyl L-Carnitine is essentially a processed form of L-Carnitine that can pass the blood-brain barrier to help energize the brain. In my weight loss experience, L-Carntine helps my weight loss and Acetyl L-Carnitine does not.

A brand that I trust
Acetyl LCarnitine is an amino acid (building block for proteins) that is naturally produced in the body and can help the body produce energy. It's used as a supplement for lots of purposes including Alzheimer's, late life depression, thinking problems related to Lyme disease, and for nerve problems such as neuropathy due to diabetes or pain due to certain drugs. I ordered it for a family member at the suggestion of the doctor for neuropathy due to the after effects of chemotherapy. So far it hasn't helped, but this is a difficult thing to treat and sometimes just takes time. At any rate, we're trying a second bottle.I've ordered vitamins and supplements from TwinLabs in the past and have been happy with their products. It's sometimes difficult to tell if a supplement is really working or if a condition just improves on it's own or if the improvement is just a placebo effect (You expect it to work and it's actually your positive thinking that makes it seem so.) But there's one vitamin, Niacin, that produces a harmless flushing effect if you don't get the buffered version, and I could tell by the flushing that the TwinLabs product was being absorbed better than some other brands I had tried. So I've continued to buy their products because as far as I can tell they usually seem to work.

Almost what I want...
My neurologist suggested years ago that I try this ALC for energy and a clearer mind. It does almost all that... but if I take the recommended three per day, I get hyper and don't feel right, so I take one a day, and it does a little good. It's not too expensive, and is probably doing my brain some good - I can still spell! - so I keep taking it. It may stave off Alzheimer's for a while yet.I'm 71 and still feel about as bright as I did 10 years ago.Go for it!
