Red Rising by Pierce Brown - "... You have to pull the feet to break the neck. They let the loved ones do it."5/5All I can say is WOW. As a writer, you hope to write a book like this one. A book that's so hard for readers to put down, that any form of distraction while reading it is considered offensive. I finished all 44 chapters in two weeks (which is a record for me), something I haven't done since high school.Speaking of high school, it seems a given to comfort the Hunger Games similarities. Yes, there are a few, like that, there's a spectated arena, the main character, Darrow, is an underdog from the lowest tier, and they're all children fighting for something. However, in my opinion, that's where the similarities end.For one, Darrow at only fifteen has had to assist in not only his father's murder but his wife's as well. He's then murdered for burying his wife and brought back to life to be a soldier, a spy. And unlike the previously mentioned series, Darrow has to look the part before being considered to fight in their game. He has to survive every bone in his body being broken and reconstructed, turning him into someone his wife wouldn't recognize, someone he has to become to avenge her and fulfill her dream that he be the face of a revolution.A part of me is glad that I'm a little late to the series, as there are four more books in the lineup. However I will do my best to build some anticipation for myself. I want to sit with events before I find out what happens next. We'll see how well that goes. I promise once you start reading you'll have a hard time putting it down, that is unless you're on bloodydamn fire.Favorite Quotes:• Personally, I do not want to make you a man.
