Minka-Aire Concept II quiet & powerful
I do recommend 2 people for the installation..... if you've ever tried to hold a bowling ball above your head for one minute, your arms tire quickly. The fan weighs 23 pounds. That being said, the installation was surprisingly easy to do if you are replacing an existing fan. And the blades just snap into place... no screws. I didn't think I would need a remote, but if you use the fan in your bedroom, it's a blessing to be able to raise or lower the rpm's or shut it off & go to sleep. We use lowest level 1 most of time overnight which provides a little air movement to a stuffy room and is silent. High level 3 is not too noisy but feels like an airplane propeller that will pick up the whole house. Level 3 is also good for blowing dry when you step out of the shower. We save money too by not running the a/c when the fan will do... which is most of the time. I don't see any wobble at all and we did not need the balancing weights on the blades. The single halogen light bulb is adequate, but keep in mind it is not meant to be the main light for the entire room. We still use our bedstand lamps more often. I don't mind spending $289 if the product is really good and this fan is exactly that and looks great too.

Questionable Lifespan
The design of this fan is very nice. It looked beautiful in the room, was quiet, and moved the air well. However, as another reviewer commented: “This fan worked great, until it didn't.“ I purchased the fan on November 7, 2012. It stopped working on September 1, 2018 (the light continued to work but not the fan). A repair person indicated the motor was no longer functioning. I don’t know the life expectancy of such motors, so perhaps my expectations were too high. As this fan was not inexpensive and certainly not ‘over used’ I expected it to last longer.

Attractive and well made, but be aware of blade noise
We bought this fan because it is attractive and has received very good reviews. We found it to be solid, well made, excellent fit and finish, and easier to install than most other ceiling fans. But there is one issue to be aware of before buying one (we weren't), and that is the blade noise. The motor and mechanism of the fan are very quiet, but the sound made by the blades as they move air is very different from a "classic" five bladed fan. When running at medium or high speed, the classic fan makes a steady whooshing sound. This one does too but, in addition to that, each individual blade make a higher-pitched whipping sound as it goes by. This is not audible on low speed, where the fan is perfectly quiet, but it's quite noticeable at medium speed and downright bothersome at high speed, both forward and reverse. This whip-whip-whip sound is probably not an issue in a larger open room, but it is objectionable if the fan is mounted right over the bed and you're trying to sleep with it running at medium speed. We ended up returning it, with some reluctance because we liked its looks and quality in all other respects.

Okay fan, some issues
I did many hours of research before settling on this fan. I don't like fans connected to the ceiling via a down rod, so this ceiling hugger is supposedly one of the best on the market. After installing it and have it running all night, I have to report some issues.1. I specifically ordered the fan from "hansenwholesale" via Amazon because of their stellar customer service and the 5 year warranty on parts, but the package was shipped to me from another seller "Fansunlimited". I am not sure what is the deal here with Amazon as the re-seller. My invoice still says sold by hansenwholesale. Hopefully I won't need to use the warranty or have to take the whole thing down and apart to ship it back to solve this problem.2. The light bulb is mini candelabra base (E11), and it came with one bulb (100 Watt). It was very difficult to find accurate information on the type of light bulb that this particular fan uses on the internet. In fact, if you go to Minka Aire's website on this model, the PDF manual that you can download shows that it is a medium base bulb (E26 or E27). So apparently the fan I received is a newer model. This makes a big difference because E11 bulbs are hard to find and the ones available are very energy consuming (no CFL or LED alternatives, at least not nearly bright enough).3. The method to secure the fan to the box is iffy. The whole assembly relies on 4 little screws to attach the main unit to the bracket, and two lightweight wood screws to attach the bracket to the mounting box. This is a very heavy fan (about 30 pounds), I would hate to have it drop on anything or anybody. The fan is easy to install, and seems to be of high quality. But because of the issues above, I am considering returning it. Just think that these information may be helpful to others.Update after 2 weeks:I decided to keep the fan because it is working fine so far. I don't use the light most of the time because of the high wattage/low illumination issue. The fan itself is quiet and moves quite a bit of air when set to high, and it hasn't fell off in my case.

great hugger fan!
We purchased this for our family room originally and loved it so much we purchased one for our bedroom. We live in a old house with low ceilings thus could only accommodate a hugger fan. The fans are both 52 inch and we used white to allow the fan to blend into the ceiling. The fan is quiet and works better than we figured it would- we run the family room one at medium or high, the bedroom one runs at low to medium. In the family room the lighting could be better but that is the tradeoff for having a fan without a lightkit- we did not have the room to to that. The lighting in the bedroom is fine as the fan is right over the bed.We have a remote and wall mount for both - they work very well. We had to change the frequency in the bedroom fan as once installed when we turned that one on the family room would go on as well- very easy to do. We have had the family room fan for 3 months and we are completely satisfied with our purchase. We have not required service or a call for parts so cannot answer to how well the company stands behind the product
