Q: How is the round base attached? Screw or glue/weld?

It's not screwed--I believe it must be welded.

Q: Can this be kept in the shower? Does it allow for air flow so that the soap can dry out beteeen showers? Thank you.

I have the round soap dishes but the principle is the same. The dish has a removable top with drain holes that allows the soap to dry out so is better than the soap holder in the shower which typically does not have the draining feature. The dish should be separated and washed periodically for cleaning.
