A game changing keyboard
I had two reasons to buy this keyboard case. The first was to protect my beloved IPad Pro and the second to type on something other than directly on to the screen.Initial setup was slightly annoying as it seem to fail to recognise the numbers it wanted me to type in. I got it eventually but it wasn’t helped by the setup pamphlet which contains almost no text. That is pretty much the only negative thing I would say about this device and it could have just been user error on my behalf. In terms of protection, it’s perfect. My iPad is protected in all dimensions from bumps and probably short drops. I’m not about to test that on my expensive piece of glass but I’ve definitely got piece of mind while carrying it around. When it comes to keyboards Logitech are usually the first I go to when buying a new one because they normally are reasonably priced quality and this is no exception. The keys are very much like those on a quality laptop. Not a huge amount of travel but my fingers definitely know when a key has been pressed. Layout is very standard which meant that I could touch type pretty much straight away and I am entirely new to Mac-like keyboards. I’ve typed this review using the keyboard and it’s been a surprisingly fluid experience.I had the budget to buy the Magic Keyboard but decided that having a trackpad wasn’t a huge priority to me as I intend to get a Bluetooth mouse. I’ll miss out on gestures but I’ve always preferred mice over trackpads. What this keyboard has that it’s Magic equivalent doesn’t is the upper row of media keys. It’s very nice to be able to control volume using keys below the screen rather than reaching up to the top left corner and fumble around for volume up or down for example. This is especially handy for watching video.Overall, while this is a first impressions review I have to say that I’m extremely pleased to own the Slim Folio Pro. I got it on sale for €90 but even at it’s normal price it’s worth the money. It’s turned my iPad into a rugged ultralight laptop on which I can knock out text pretty much anywhere. While I could be classed as a Logitech fanboy they’ve earned my loyalty. This is a quality product that often exceeds it’s more expensive rivals in certain areas.

Good first impressions - 4th gen iPad Pro 12.9 Slim Folio
Be careful when reading the reviews as they seem to vary widely according to which version of the keyboard was purchased. This is for 4th gen iPad Pro 12.9 Slim Folio.First impressions are good. It seems to be a sturdy case with good edge protection. The keyboard is excellent, similar to a decent laptop keyboard. When using in “laptop mode” the iPad attaches magnetically to the keyboard and is very stable. When connected there is a short white light to indicate it is connected and then short green light to indicate battery power. When the iPad is detached from the magnetic strip the keyboard is deactivated. The various iPadOS shortcut keys are handy once you know what they are.+ Sturdy, good edge protection for your expensive device+ Good keyboard (as long as it lasts - various negative reviews on key failures)+ Good value compared to Apple’s ridiculous prices.=/- Depending on your needs it is a bit bulky and definitely heavy at 900g compared to the iPad’s 640g.- Can’t see any so far.

The box says 12.9" but the contents are 11"
I bought this keyboard in the 12.9" variant and it was received in very good time. UNFORTUNATELY, as the photos show, while the box says it contains a 12.9", my iPad does not fit it. In fact, while my iPad is 12.9" in height, the keyboard stand only allows a device of 11" to fit it. Even the box is not 12.9". I ordered a replacement which again arrived swiftly but it was exactly the same and this will also be returned, this time with a request for a refund.

Nice little keyboard – emphasis on little
Some background first. I’m using this with an iPad Air 2022, and it works just fine. Background about me – I’m middle-aged and have been typing since I was ten years old. I type very fast, at around 120WPM. My fingers are in the very very early stages of becoming arthritic, in that I increasingly wake up with them aching slightly. But this does not yet affect my typing. My hand are around average size for a man.In summary, I like this keyboard case a lot. The keyboard is about as small as it can be without compromising the ability to type. Getting used to it takes a very small amount of adjustment, and in particular the backspace key isn’t quite as large as I’m used to. I sometimes hit the key above it, which is the lock button, so accidentally turn the iPad off. Again, this is about adjusting how I work. The key travel is very small. That is, the distance the key must be pressed is literally a millimetre or two. Personally, I like this but if you’ve got heavy typing fingers then I’m unsure if you’ll find this OK. My late father had learned to type on manual typewriters, and made the desk bounce when he typed on his laptop. He’s the kind of person I suspect might adjust to typing on a keyboard like this. I would certainly suggest trying it out somewhere before purchasing if you have any concerns. You need to keep your nails short too, which is the case with all “low profile” keyboards like this (including Apple’s most recent laptops). The trackpad works great. It’s not glass, though, like my MacBook Pro that I came from. This means my finger doesn’t glide quite as smoothly. I suspect this will fix itself as the trackpad gets a little finger grease on there, and as I start to wear it down. Again this is more an issue of adjustment. But it clicks fine. This is the new generation, so you can click anywhere. The older generation only allowed clicking on the bottom half. The trackpad is wide but there’s no issue for me around accidentally touching it while typing. My palms rest on the fabric parts of the keyboard case.Opening the case can be a little fiddly. As weird as it sounds, it’s like they didn’t design it with this in mind. You have to prise apart the top and bottom edges of the case by getting your fingertips underneath each. If you have an Apple Pencil (or cheap knock off hint-hint) magnetically attached to the top of the case then it’s even more difficult.Random top tip: Go into Settings > Accessibility > Pointer Control on the iPad. Here you can switch off inertia for the pointer, so it doesn’t keep flying off when you lift your finger from the trackpad. You can also adjust scrolling speed to make it slower, and therefore more like you might be used to.Beware that using this case with the iPad makes the whole thing a little heavier than you might expect. Not as heavy as a laptop but it’s close to what a small laptop might feel like in your hands. When resting my hands on the keyboard to type, I often feel the slightly sharp rim of the case. This isn’t a big issue. But it’s a slight annoyance.Using it on your lap is just about possible, but really you need something like a laptop tray for long periods.Another random top tip: Download the Logitech Control app. It will update the firmware. From what I’ve been reading, this is vital. All in all I’m happy with this. Or I would be if it wasn’t for the cost. The retail price of £180 is just stupidly, eye-wateringly expensive. Yes, this is a quality product. But there’s no way on Earth it should cost that much. Even the £150 I got it for here on Amazon is off the scale. My only guess is that greedy Apple charges Logitech a high licensing fee, which is what bumps the price up. This product should cost maybe £50-80.High price or not, I do feel this is definitely worth it if you want to turn your iPad into a nice little portable computer and don’t want to splash out for Apple’s version of this (which is arguably inferior because it doesn’t protect the iPad against drops as well). Whether you need it or not is up to you.

Excellent keyboard case, and it IS compatible with my new iPad 8th generation
Ill be honest, the price of this Logitech Slim Folio keyboard case put me off buying for a long while but reviews of other much cheaper alternatives were a concern. I was also troubled at being unable to get a definitive answer from Logitech - is it or isn’t it compatible with the new iPad 8th generation (2020) that i just bought? The description says for iPad 7th generation. However, the chassis of the iPad 8 is identical to iPad 7, so logically it should work....and I can confirm that it does, despite Logitech eventually declaring it isn’t compatible! The case is on the chunky side but very sturdy and very protective. iPad 8 fits it nicely. Bluetooth pairing is very easy...simple instructions are provided...and the keys are nicely spaced and highly responsive, with iPad keyboard shortcuts like home, volume, brightness, etc. When closed the iPad is automatically turned off and protected from the keys through great design and rubber seals. iPad wakes immediately the lid is opened and, when typing, is held in place by really firm magnetic attraction, linking automatically. Extremely sturdy without any chance of slipping while in use. If anything its a bit of a tug to free it once in place. It can also be rested on top of the keyboard if not required, of course. So all in all, I’m very impressed, despite the cost and despite Logitech’s compatibility denial. You do get what you pay for and this is worth every penny in my opinion. And, backed by a 2 year warranty.
