Best Yoga book
This is the best aid to yogic health unless you have the time and energy and a yoga class you're going to attend religiously. Trouble is, most yoga classes, where I live, anyway, are taught by women who totally leave out any spiritual side as if it's icky, and substitute that with exercises which, since I am a man, wrecked my left hip for about 2 years. Stupid--she was a 20-something dancer. Hittleman touches on the rebirth of consciousness which will happen after a while, but doesn't push it like a good old-fashioned Indian guru, which also don't exist around here. This is 90% exercises, which start VERY slowly, and leave you at the end with a 15-30 minute program you can do everyday, which will keep you 100% more flexible and at peace physically and mentally than you were at the start. A "caveat" go EASY on yourself (Hittleman repeats this many times). I've been doing this program off and on for 30 years, with substitutions into Tai Chi the gym, and running when I was able. Often I'll miss a day--so what? But if i miss more than one or two I just go back to the previous "Review" session and start from there. Thing is, this book is a lot more CONVENIENT (and cheaper) than classes, while the current crop of yoga instructors--in my are area, at least--are all women and obsessed with "Power" yoga--a contradiction in terms--Yoga meaning "union," or a "yoking" of the mind to the body: unity, and PEACE, antithetical to Power. As evidenced in our politics, but that's only one example.

Review of Yoga 28day Exercise Plan
This is the forth time I've bought this book. The first time was when it was first published in 1972. It's such a good book I keep giving it to friends and family to help them get their bodies and lives back in shape. I'm turning 70 years old this year and decided it's time to go through the book again. This book will keep you healthy and flexible all through your life if you follow the principles given. When you stop moving you start dying so turn off that TV and get up and start moving. Let's all live to be happy, healthy and active at 100 years of age.

Fantastic Low Impact Body Changing Exercise!
If you don't have a problem reading, you will benefit greatly from this Exercise Plan, I did! It is a VINTAGE book therefore you must have the patience for the grammatical errors etc. The photo diagrams are very helpful along w/ the written instructions on how to perform the Asana's. I can testify that prior to utilizing this Richard Hittleman Exercise Plan I had knee problems and found it very difficult to climb up/down stairs, that problem was solved! On a smaller note, I had no idea that I could no longer stand on my tip-toe's until instructed in this book, after just about a week and half of performing the related exercises, I was tip-toeing everywhere! I had found this book in a yard sale about 3 yrs. ago which would put me at about 45 yrs. old. I have a couple herniated & bulging discs in my neck & back and osteoarthritis; I could not walk more than a 1/4 mile without suffering for days; I definitely could not do any impacting exercises such as in aerobics. I had two late pregnancies at the age of 40 & 42 and was overweight by at least 45 lbs. Doctors suggested water exercises but I had no access to a pool. This book truly is the reason I was able to lose my initial 25 lbs. and as mentioned earlier the reason I can take the stairs in stride. I also am able to walk longer distances thankfully as I now live in the mountains w/ lots of incline, which allowed me to lose the remainder of my excess weight! Highly Recommend!

I guess that says how much we like the book and how successful the 28-day program has ...
I bought this book in paperback twice since it first came out. It got so much use my family and me that we wore them out. I guess that says how much we like the book and how successful the 28-day program has been for all of us. Unlike a lot of hard core yoga manuals, this one is gradual and a pleasure to use. You don't need to be an accomplished yogi master to benefit from it. I am very pleased with this used hardback edition. It was in good condition and, hopefully, I won't have to buy another one for the rest of my life.

Great for beginning yoga
My sister recommended this book. I'd been suffering from frequent back spasms for months and was getting discouraged. I did the well-explained yoga moves for a few days and have been free from back pain for weeks now. The program is easy to understand and follow. A great starter book for learning yoga at home.

Good beginner book
The yoga moves in this book are not named what you hear them named today. No mention of downward dog, etc. But, this book is a great intro into performing some good yoga moves. The book is written for a housewife to practice yoga with but it came highly recommended to me by a friend and I have enjoyed the book. A little outdated, and very simple and EASY, but a good intro to Yoga.

Best Yoga book I ever used!
This book is super easy to follow with great pictures and descriptions. About 7 to 9 days into it and you feel an actual difference in your body! Excellent value for the price it truly is amazing. It starts you off slowly by giving you a good foundation of easy poses that gradually get harder allowing you to slowly and safely work your body up into more advanced poses.

I'm finding this just as good as before and am really happy
I used to use this book about 30 years ago and it was old then.Looking for something new to do at home I had a brainwave and googled until I found the title and was thrilled to be able to buy it from Amazon. What did we do before the internet?!Anyway, I'm finding this just as good as before and am really happy.

Great for beginner as takes you gently through the exercises
Great for beginner as takes you gently through the exercises, slowly increasing the movements over a period of 28 days. Following the book I made very good progress by the end of the 4 week plan. Recommend

A bit tedious
Used it a couple of times then handed it in to the nearest charity shop. Seemed very old fashioned but maybe that's because the illustrations and guidelines were meant to be taken seriously. But the delivery was fine and it WAS exactly as advertised.
