Use it for everything
I was reluctant to get a product that seemed frivolous because let's be honest a spoon will do just as well. I'm glad I caved. I find myself using this for everything from tea to mac and cheese. I have noticed a SIGNIFICANT decrease in cast-off splatter when cooking. (When you stir and things go flying out of the pan) I use it to mix bread dough, make mashed potatoes, crush garlic, break up hamburger, ect. This has become my go-to kitchen utensil. BONUS points for making me feel witchy in the kitchen.

Perfect.
Do you have somebody in your life who is impossible to buy for? Are you always trying to come up with some sort of unique gift that'll make you stand out from the crowd? Do you enjoy giving people gifts that make them think? This is what you need.Believe me, nobody else is going to give this gift and you will be remembered for it because it just looks like you're handing somebody a stick. But it actually is extremely useful and now I've started buying it to have on hand as a last-minute gift option because it turned out to be super practical but also something no one's ever heard of.Makes a great stocking stuffer too. It actually is really great for stirring thick foods. So if you've got a co-worker who you know nothing about but you picked their name for secret Santa, or you need a gift for white elephant, or you know somebody who loves to cook but it seems like they already have everything they need... Just go ahead and get this. Promise, they'll love it, once they realize you didn't just give them a stick.

Works well, wood is extremely dry
This Scottish Oatmeal spurtle by Lancaster Wooden Spoons is a wonderful cooking tool. I grew up eating Scottish Oatmeal from the time I was a baby, and now prepare it for myself and my family each week. While a spurtle isn't a magic wand to get rid of every last lump or burnt spot, it really does seem to help lessen the chances of the aforementioned, and makes cooking smooth, delicious oatmeal a breeze. My one and only complaint is that the spurtle is made from extremely dry wood. I am very careful to immediately wash the spurtle in warm, soapy water with a gentle scrub brush after using it for cooking, and then I immediately apply coconut oil to the wood to keep it from cracking, splitting and breaking. However, the wood seems as if it could drink up excessive amounts of oil, and is always overly dry when I go back to use it again. Because of this one fact, I have deducted a star from my rating

A unique item for the oatmeal-lover in your family
This is "proof that you can buy anything on Amazon." Do you really need this? I'm not sure that you do. But do you have someone in your family who loves oatmeal? Then you won't find a more unique gift for that special person. My father eats oatmeal for breakfast at least six days a week. Somehow he has managed to cook his oatmeal (not instant!) for decades without a spurtle. But for Christmas, he's getting a new tool to help him stir his morning meal. I'm sure it will be a hit!

A Very Well Crafted Kitchen Tool
I had never heard of a spurtle until I bought some Bob's Red Mill Oatmeal (which smells and tastes amazing, btw). When I saw this I couldn't resist trying it out. This is very well crafted from a single piece of wood. This is a big deal because it means there are no joints to wear down and eventually fracture or break. The handle part is very comfortable to hold, even during relatively long periods of stirring.Cleaning is very simple. The wood is oiled and protected, so it is not going to dry out and splinter. There are also instructions included for care of the wood after multiple uses.So far, I have only used this for making oatmeal. I am looking forward to using it for other, similar batches like grits, chili, and soup. I would definitely buy this again and as a gift for a cook in your life.

Heavy duty, very useful
After the years of evolution with kitchen stirring utensils, it turns out the best is a nice sturdy stick! Seriously, this is perfect for stirring stews, potatoes, etc. Cleans easily.

Pricey but works well, great to have if you make porridge often!
I've been using a wooden spatula that I hold upside down to make my porridge and oatmeal for years, not the best use of it but it's the best tool that I had found over the years.I was not aware of these Scottish spurtles before so I had been missing out for years on a tool that would have saved me a ton of grief.Look, this is probably not on the list of things most people need, but if you're like me and enjoy the odd cup of porridge or oatmeal from time to time, and like doing things the old fashioned way, this is a great tool to have!Yes, it's pricey, but it's Made in USA, and the quality is superb, the piece of wood I received is beautiful, has no knots, and has been exquisitely finished. It's worth the price for the craftsmanship involved, and if you are someone who will use something like this, I think it's definitely worth it!

Good for oatmeal, and the bar!
I just want to say I did not receive this product to make oatmeal. I couldn't care less for the stuff, Quaker Oats is all I need. However, I DID get awesome use out of this spurtle as a muddler. For the uninitiated, a muddler is a blunt tool used to mash and mix (muddle) ingredients for making cocktails and the like. As someone who loves mint juleps, a high-quality muddler is a nice-to-have, and this handmade spurtle is certainly nice to have! It's well-sanded, feels great in the hands, almost has a wand-like feeling when being held. Great product!

Terrible
I can not believe this item cost 30$!!! It is a mass produced "baton"... 5$ is a more realistic price. This will definitely be returned.I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT!!!
