American fiddle music of varying difficulties and abilities
This is a good fiddle book with a lot of famous fiddle tunes! I've been enjoying playing the music out of this book. My only caveat is they don't have as many music notations like crecendo and decrecendo etc.. or specific ties to the notes. This might be good for violinists who have been playing fiddle music for a long time and know the tunes, but I find they sound quite different when I listen to recordings. Overall it's a great base for classically trained violinists to learn basic fiddle tunes. It helps to search for the songs on youtube and listen a few times for where the notes tie etc. Ultimately I am pleased with the purchase and the breadth of songs this book lists!

Great for classically trained violinist wanting to play fiddle music
I'm a classically trained violinist, but always loved the sound of fiddle music. I've purchased other books, but always had a hard time with the free for all approach to bowing and making it sound authentic. Of course that comes with practice and experience, but this book gives bowing suggestions, and even fingering suggestions when it moves out of first position. There is a wide range of songs, enough to keep me busy :)

Mysteries revealed
Just what you need to learn how to play these standard tunes. Cut the binding off and added a spiral binding. There's plenty of margin to do that, and it made it lie helpfully flat so you can use it in a jam (if the jammers won't sniff at you having sheet music in the first place). A lot easier for me to follow than the "Fiddler's Fake Book," though there are not nearly so many tunes, they are more thoroughly laid out, and I find them easier to see and follow.

Beats practicing scales and arpeggios and when your done you have a tune you can play for your friends.
If I could give it six... plenty of bang -most of the tunes are happy, are fun to play. There are plenty of material at many different levels of difficulty.Beats practicing scales and arpeggios and when your done you have a tune you can play for your friends.I really look forward to pulling this book out to start my practice sessions. They are easy enough to focus on cleaning up technique and improving your sight-reading skills.I could not ask for more - thank you Mr. Duncan (I used your beginning method book to get starting on the violin years back.)

Ok collection
Ive played fiddle for years, and like to see other people's ideas for some standard songs. This good for comparison, or if you new just learning. Craig Duncan obviously knows what he's doing. You will enjoy this book.

Good Book
So many good tunes. Love Craig Duncan books. Use his other books to teach with. This one has songs good for beginners-advanced. Just wish there was a CD.

Great Collection of (not just) Fiddle Tunes
Lots of fiddle books out there advertise a large number of tunes--but that is all they have. You are left to create your own variations and improvisations--great if you are confident doing that. This book was written for those who can play the violin fairly well but haven't quite mastered the various licks and tricks of fiddle playing. Generally each song has at least one or two interesting variations that helps the player begin to not just hear what it sounds like to play the fiddle but what it feels like as well.

Good American tune book
This is a really excellent book. It has a lot of tunes and they are all good ones, classics. The level of skill needed to play then is not quite as high as other books of competition tunes but lots of good waltzes. Some great tunes if you want to work on your double stopping.

Craig Duncan's Fiddle Book
This is a great anthology for standard fiddle tunes. Whether in old-time fiddle or bluegrass music circles, you'll likely benefit from this in your collection. Fine for beginner & intermediate players, & provides an excellent framework for more advanced players who are ready to add their own flare. The arrangements are well thought out, and represent a very good reference to many of the gems in the repertoire.
