The drum beats are really useful for looping, but very basic. There are many dedicated drum looper’s such as the Beat Buddy with a midi output to synchronise to your your other midi devices.

Q: I’m new to using pedals can I use it all on its own?

Yes, you can try distortion pedal first. But if you use distortion pedal only, the sound will be a bit dry, and it is better to match the peripheral guitar pedals.
