I am working through this long-distance with a dear friend. Both of us have lived challenges in our family life that made being happy nearly impossible. We like the clear approach and advice offered here. The language is for laypersons, and the goals are achievable. I recommend this to anyone wanting to take steps to improve their quality of life.

This workbook was super helpful for me in my healing journey. I specifically found a lot of value from the cognitive distortion section and working on retraining your thoughts related to those.

Educational
The first half of the book is educational, and the second half is where the workbook pages are. I haven't gotten through it all the way. The first parts are really boring to me. I want to treat my depression, but learning the stuff is a lot. The author is knowledgeable, but if you are in a real funk, a therapist is a better idea.I ended up taking a course on happiness online, which is more helpful to me. I will come back to this book when I am done with the class.I am dealing with my depression by journaling about things that I am grateful for, and events that I am looking forward to. This seems to be helping more than anything.If I get into a funk again, I will pick up the book again.

This book helps us become optimistic, think positively, and enjoy life
The problem that most people have is that they were told certain "facts" as children, "facts" that they never questioned, "facts" that serve as a basis for many, if not most or even all their current ideas and behaviors. "Facts" that influence their thinking about life, even religion. "Facts" that are childish and wrong, that stifle their lives and destroy their happiness."Happiness Workbook: A CBT-Based Guide to Fostering Positivity and Embracing Joy" can help people unlearn these untruths, break habits and behaviors that are unconsciously driven by the untruths, and give people a chance to grow and have happiness. CBT is a system in which people are taught to examine their thinking and behaviors associated and driven by bad thoughts and overcome stifling thinking, depression, anxiety, and sadness. The book is easy to read and its ideas easy to follow.
