Great!
Fox and Jonah are detectives who manage to find each other and begin working together. It takes longer to solve their first big case than for them to discover they are way more than co-workers!

Liked this...a lot!
I'm a big fan of mystery & detective stories, and also unusual M/M romances and characters, so to find this combination intrigued me. First time reading this author, and I will definitely be coming back for more! This book ticked all my "ooh, I like this!" boxes! Lots of other reviewers go into the details, so I won't, lol. However I will say that I enjoyed this book so much that I stayed up all night to finish it, as I was caught up in the main character's storyline, as well as the investigation, and HAD to find out how it ended!Took off 1 star due to gaps in the investigation side of the storyline that I felt could have tied the tail of the tale up more clearly. I wanted more details in certain areas, but I dislike spoilers, so I won't go into those details. It wasn't egregious, just slightly annoying. Also, the editor and proofreaders missed a few things, although it wasn't that big a deal; it's still a really good read! I took a star off for continuity/information gaps in the storyline, at least the info that I wanted to see addressed, as I'm a curious sort of person and wanted to follow those loose ends. That said, I really enjoyed the interplay between the two main characters: it was sexy-steamy & funny & sweet/hot, and although both characters had some deep angst to deal with, each in their own way and timeframe, it played out in a manner that captured my interest and held it throughout the book.AND, some of the side characters caught my interest, too, making me hope for some of their storylines to follow! Now I am compelled to go buy the other books in this series (grin)!Note: Yes, I buy paperback books as I like having a 'real' book to hold & read & throw in my backpack to take with me, wherever my journeys may lead!Highly recommend this book!

This is a good romance pretending to be a mystery - and it's a good mystery premise.
Four star romance, three star mysteryI rated this book based on its purpose and intended audience. It appears to be a detective story, and indeed there is one – two private investigators, Gabriel “Fox” Morrison and Jonah Brightly, go on the hunt to root out a new and dangerous recreational drug cutting a path of death in the gay community in Miami Beach. However, somewhat to my surprise, the detective story is distinctly secondary to the romance that is the centerpiece of the book – that of a young man (Jonah) waking up to his true self after signing on to work with Fox Morrison at the newly-established Miami branch of Stonewall Investigations. As a romance, it’s good, and emotional, and at moments intense. It speaks to denial and repression and that magic – possibly mythical – moment when another person sparks a fire in you and helps you see clearly for the first time in your life. Both Fox Morrison and Jonah Brightly have their issues. Like a lot of attractive gay men just out of youth but still young, Fox has resigned himself to being alone, caught up in his work and ready enough for the quick satisfaction of hook-ups. Jonah is in a different place, as his longtime relationship with a woman crashes and burns, leaving him lost and disoriented. It is Fox Morrison who strikes the spark that helps Jonah see potential he’s never been willing to see before. As a detective story, this is a three, because a very interesting plot gets pushed to the side. As a romance, however, this is very satisfying. In spite of the way the book is marketed, I decided to cast my vote on the side of romance. I’m interested into know what Walker will do with the Miami office of Stonewall Investigations next.

What a book!!
I absolutely devoured the Stonewall Investigations series and was so excited when I found the Miami spinoff series. I couldn't one click it fast enough! The chemistry and connection between Fox & Jonah was fervent from the very start. They were clearly meant to be together.I will say, the book was a little slow moving for me. Even unrealistic at times. Which is ok to a point because it's a book, but to be able to really get into it, for me personally, it needed to be a little more real. The first 40 percent of the book revolved around one day & night. It got to the point I didn't think that day was ever going to end LOL. Though the attraction is strong from the start, the actual romance doesn't happen until closer to the end of the book. I really did enjoy reading Bad Idea and am in no way trying to leave a negative impact about it. There's plently of suspense & action from the case they're trying to crack, funny one liners, and HOT sex scenes when they finally gave into all that raging passion. I'll definitely continue reading the series and other books from Max Walker.

This was a Good Idea
Must say, this writing was excellent. I was drawn in and held like a hobbit staring into a magical orb.The wit, humor, and power of this story made me smile throughout. So many great lines…“Those butterflies dusted off their wings, blew off the cobwebs that clung to their spindly little legs, and started fluttering around their dusty cave inside my gut.” — This is one of my favs, but there are so many more incliding the Hogwarts comment that almost had me spitting my sparkling water across my kindle. Thanks for that!Got this in KU, but totally going to buy and read over and over and over. Highly recommend for a good mystery, awakening, and HEA

Good plot idea and characters but I don't understand the rave reviews
Almost gave up reading this as found the first half slightly ridiculous and frustrating. Firstly, the initial impressions of the 2 main characters regarding each other were shockingly gushy and I thought unrealistic. I get that the chemistry was there but come on, a little build up please. I almost expected them to elope to Vegas during that never ending first meeting which went on and on. Secondly for a detective novel there was very little detecting. Nothing gritty or realistic. Gabe was also quite unprofessional at times. I didn't understand the hugging and back slapping when he visited the trio of club owners initially. I mean they 're bloody clients why behave like they were best buddies. Just because almost everyone in the book is gay (also unrealistic) doesn't mean they automatically like each other, thats just not going to happen. A few disliked characters who are essentially arseholes is a must for any book. The detectives were all so cheery and almost too nice and there was a lack of seriousness about most of them to be honest. Jonah's ex Mrs got a hard time, almost brutal for the only female character, abit poorly repressed really. Who stays with someone who treats them that badly after they are shot in the head!!! Sex scenes rocked, author does those exceeding well and outcome of book was thankfully much better than the start. Phewww

Really Not Good!
Oh dear! This was not good. Why? Badly written - so stilted & simplistic, it was painful to read with so much over-explanation & stating of the obvious, it left little to the imagination and then there was the 'banter', which really was not funny. Really - not funny. How others have given it 5 stars is beyond me. Put me off this author completely. As for the story line, am rolling eyes as I type this review. Trite and silly, with a love story that was just bad, and one of my pet aversions - a female character who was just nasty, perhaps even a tad misogynist. Just no.

Great start to a new series.
Gabriel and Jonah are such likeable characters, they literally stole my heart from the moment I started reading the book. This is a follow on to the author's successful Stonewall series, this first book of the new series proved a promising beginning.I really enjoyed their story. They were both drawn to each other, but they both had their own reasons for keeping their distance. I loved the initial push and pull of their relationship. The characters were well-matched, both perfect for one another. Jonah, is the victim of an attack that has left him anxiety riddled, Gabriel's gentleness with Jonah, coupled with his patience was wonderful to read. There are a lot of intense and serious moments, as well as a lot of laughter in the story, this, coupled with the mystery, the two men are working on, makes for a decent read. 4 and a half stars.

Jonah and Fox are hot
When Jonah goes for an interview as a detective and meets Fox he doesn’t realise how much his life is about to change. As they investigate a new drug that is killing gay club goers Jonah starts to accept his true colours are more rainbow than he previously thought. The right mix of romance and action with a hint of Miami Vice.
