Review on shinko raven 120'70 17 and 200/50 17 tires on a 2012 hayabusaI rode to raeford nc and back this weekend from oak ridge tn. Raeford is just outside of fort bragg. The tires only had about 150 miles on the rear and maybe 50 on the front. installed seperately. ( rear was in stock, front had to be ordered)The rear is bitey. It grips like a s-o-b. hell the set is top notch. the tires dont need any real heating before they grip and go. Movements with the ravens is fluid. Transitions couldnt have been better. on I-40 right at the tn nc state line ,aka the gorge, the road gets a bit curvy . Not us-129 curvy but good curves to twist the throttle in. Never and ounce of tire slide (honestly pretty clean), and a full feeling of confidence going in and coming out. On the route to nc we hit that section at 60-70, and the way back we hit harder, 80-95!The straight line feel is good. The hayabusa came with a 190/50 17 battlax, and it had a good profile, but i wanted the little extra contact patch of the 200 raveN. The raven 200 seem to have a much flatter profile than for say a dunlop q3 200. Flatter profile aside, straight line running was great. The rear felt like it rode a bit smoother than the stock battlax. Under heavy acceleration (3rd & 4th gear running 70 then flung open to 120-125 with no clutch dumping and about 60 lb bag on tail ) the front end went dead. The forks had 0 resistance ( front tire was hanging roughly 2-3 inches). With stock ax's it would max the out the forks but wouldnt lift the tire. Not saying a powered wheelie is a safe thing, but the difference was clear immediately. Shinko ravens hook, period, and this is supposed to be a higher mileage tire?!? Never heard a high mileage tire hooking like this. The front was like an precision instrument cutting through the pavement. Lane changes were unnoticeable and straight tracking was precise. No minor wander except rider input. In dirtier road conditions ( nc sand and tn road construction dirt) were decent. The front cuts through and doesn't give a f--- doing it. The rear was a bit lacking by comparison but any sport bike rear (in my opinion) is sketchy in dirty conditions. The two tires look identical par for the exception of a line in the center of the front and a meaty center in the rear. Sand was a little slidy but not like glass, red clay (from construction) was no issue period (dry / didnt get to see wet red clay), and normal road dirt and pea gravel was decent, not as bad as sand was. With over 800 miles on the set, I decided to launch the hayabusa drag style. No burn out. On good hot pavement. I felt like the rear shock maxed plumb out, the front end (was stated to me) was carrying 8-12 inches (this came from a severly redneck associate). Measured a 55 foot black mark. It fish tailed at 1-2 shift and 2-3 shift. I had to back out half way through 3rd gear do to a gaining lack of space on a short road. Probably not the best tire to drag race with, but definitely a barrel of funMy over all opinion is the shinko raven(in sizes stated) are a top tier all around tire at a knock-off cheapo tire price. the shinko ravens are my new go to, tire. Mileage be damned, they felt overly capable with the ability to get stupid on them with a safe feeling, by meaning they give me a large feeling of confidence. Confidence of what ever I put them into, they're going to bring me out of it.I rate this tire on a 1-10 scale 9-9.5On a 1-5 I rate it 4.5-5Its not a perfect combo being a matched set, but its as close as you are gonna get. At least on a hayabusa from what I've seen.
