A Perfect Ending
I have thoroughly enjoyed the entire Gideon and Sirius novels. Russell has blended the perfect match of detective novel, dog lover, pop culture, and warped humor into these books, which keeps you guessing as Gideon solves mysteries while laughing out loud at his quips. I look forward to reading even more from this author. Thanks, Alan, for taking me on this fun journey!

Great conclusion(?) to a great series!
Gideon and Sirius have found love in their lives with the addition of four wonderful ladies. Exciting plot, hero dogs, satisfying execution of all loose ends. Looking forward to reading all the author*s other books!

Another Excellent Installment
If you haven't read any of the Gideon and Sirius series, you are missing an reading gem. Alan Russell is the type of writer that should be studied and enjoyed. The character development is plausible and the dialogue between characters is top notch.Several contemporary topics are visited in this story for Gideon: Parenthood, PTSD, crime & punishment, and potential retirement. Although his partner is a German Shepherd police dog, Gideon realizes that technology is a tool to make crime solving easier. But for the convenience of ease, another opportunity price must be paid. Although Sirius will do anything to make Gideon appear exceptional, when are you too old to perform at your optimal level? Does that realization affect attitude and disposition? At the end of the story are three sneak previews of other novels penned by Alan Russell. Two of them peaked my interest enough to get them off Amazon. If you are not familiar with Alan Russell, read his works. You will be glad you did. I will be a true fan by years end!!

Great finale to series
This has been a fun series to read. Lots of dog stuff, lots of cliff hangers, lots of corny, lots of suspense, lots of romance! What's not to enjoy?

Loved this series
Glad to know you are going to continue it. The love between dog and man while trying to overcome the memory of a horrible event says so much for police and also military that face these situations.

Absolutely loved the series
When I finished the last page of this book I was sad that it was the end. Then I read the words from the author and my mood brightened. The thought that there may be more G&S in the future is wonderful.

The best novel and series, that I have read in many years.
THE LAST GOOD DOG is Alan Russell at his best! i have read the majority of Alan's work and have enjoyed all of his offerings, but his Gideon and Sirius series have held me captivated from beginning to end.THE LAST GOOD DOG continues to build on the saga using Alan's customary wit, excellent character development. secondary plots and twists to keep you enthralled from the first adventure to the last....and what a typical Alan Russell ending it is.....tying everything together beautifully with a nod to great wit.If you enjoy well presented mystery plots, great characters, drama mixed with humor, and share his love of dogs & dog rescue; this is a must read series.I cannot recommend it highly enough; and have presented several copies of the complete series to family members and my friends who enjoy a great detective story and love dogs.Enjoy!

Another classic in the series...
Music isn’t music until it’s played through finely tuned instruments or sung by human voices. Alan Russell gives more finely tuned instruments and voices to the music of story-telling than anyone writing mysteries today. His characters – including the canine variety – engage the reader in fully fleshed out back-stories and the immediacy of everyday life. Wit and wisdom cadence their interactions. You may take that all for granted, however, as echoes of an old nemesis emerge in this well-paced thriller. The re-emergence of the All-in Killer spirals ever-closer to Gideon and Sirius with insidious intent until you realize they are targeted. The weave is intricate with sub-plots and tension, all masterly choreographed with the rich gallery of characters. Russell’s skill-set is sharper than ever. Tie-ins, red herrings, ingenious twists, clever revelations – all part of these high-pulse reads. Large kudos for this consummate series which never disappoints!

The return of Sirius and co is as joyous as ever
It's taken me a little while to write this review. With his previous books, it has been easy for me to write a review as soon as I've finished but this one left me with feelings of loss - don't worry, I'm not throwing spoilers out here. My loss is that I've finished this book and I don't have any more by Alan to replace it.There are really three things that stand out for me with any of Alan's books. The first is his love of the language and the way that he uses it to paint pictures in your mind. For some authors, this is done through exposition but Alan has that rarer gift of being able to paint those pictures through dialogue. He has sympathetic protagonists that draw you in with their conversations and asides, with each having their own unique rhythm and voice. The second is his love of California. This love shines through, inviting the reader to join him in an exploration of a place that seems so remote for many people around the world. Finally, and this is the big one for me, Alan loves dogs with a passion and, while Gideon is our human viewpoint, we go along for the ride because of the love for Sirius and Emily and, .... well, I'll let you find that one out (this is a spoiler free review). I make no bones about being a dog lover - and any author who brings the joie de vivre to dogs will long be a friend of mine.In summary. Go buy this book. Buy copies for your friends. Make new friends just so you can buy copies for them. Make the world a brighter place by sharing the Sirisu and Gideon love (sorry Gideon, you name has to come second old pal).

Fearing the worst 😱
I loved the tension, even whilst fearing what lay ahead. I have loved every book in the series of Gideon and Sirius, but I have to admit that I am glad that this was the last one; I cannot explain why without spoiling the ending. You'll have to read it for yourself and find out.
