Family, Neighborhood Spell Trouble
A nudge from the cousin who introduced me to this wonderful series that a new one, the 7th, is now available reminded me that I've read just three of the books despite loving them. So, I vowed to carve out some time to catch up, starting with this, the 4th. Honestly, it's not my favorite of the bunch so far, but it's still very good and kept me wanting to read more about Lord and Lady Hetheridge (a.k.a. Tony and Kate).Cantankerous relatives of New Scotland Yard Detective Sergeant Kate Wakefield, wife of Anthony Hetheridge, ninth baron of Wellegrave and chief superintendent for the Yard and Kate's boss, are making things miserable at their Mayfair home - even Tony's manservant, Harvey, is having a hard time keeping the peace. When the dead body of modern art dealer Granville Hardwick turns up at his garish home in a posh neighborhood, it's almost a relief that Tony and Kate can get away from the chaos - much of which centers around Kate's sister Maura's son Henry, who's been living with the Hetheridges.Kate and Tony are handling the murder investigation with help from some characters from previous books including Paul Bahr, who's now living with his romance-book writing mother. She's going a bit bonkers because, as it turns out, her new boyfriend is the prime suspect in the murder.Action heats up in both the home and murder case situations until both are brought to an end (no, I won't reveal details of either). Meanwhile, Tony is taking heat of a different sort that could well result in major changes to both his professional and personal life. All told? Another good one. I do, however, advise those new to the series not start with this one lest they become a bit confused. As for me, I'm already hoping to get started on the next one.

Good read!
The Lord & Lady Hetheridge mystery series is addictive, especially to one who is an anglophile like I am! I love the use of English descriptive phrases. Jameson 's characters are so real I can't wait to discover how they're doing - feel like I know them personally; yet, I've laughed outloud at the humorous descriptive phrases & interaction between Bhar & his romance-writing mother, Sharada. As always, the indomitable Lord Hetheridge keeps me reading for more of his life-changing marriage & retirement from Scotland Yard. The continuing saga of Kate's career & family situation with her sister, Maura, & her mother are predictable but the murderer is always a surprise!Jameson's characters are consistent & well-developed. I would highly recommend this series to anyone who likes a good English mystery. I love British authors & Jameson is the best!

MURDER IN ENGLAND CAN BE A VERY INTERESTING EVENT
Lord Tony Hetheridge is a Chief Superintendent at Scotland Yard. He is married to Kate, a detective at Scotland Yard. He is in his 60's and she is not. They married quickly and they are very much in love. Her brother. Richie, who is disabled lives with them. Her nephew, Henry, who is a 9 year old boy also lives with them. They all live in Mayfair in a large house on a very posh street. But, one of their neighbors has been murdered. It is Granville Hardwick who is an art dealer. He lives in a house that is considered an eyesore among the neighbors. He is considered to be a jerk. This is a mystery populated by very interesting characters.Kate's mother and sister are women who are determined to ruin Kate's life. They are resentful of her because she is a hard worker who has become successful in her work for Scotland Yard. They are also angry because Henry wants to stay with Kate and Tony rather than return to a mother who abandoned him.Tony walks a fine line in order to be fair to all the police staff and not show favoritism to his wife. The reader gets to know some of his staff members and they are very interesting people. They have problems in their lives and they are in competition for better positions in the department. It is evident that Scotland Yard is populated by very interesting policemen. The neighbors who all had reason to despise the victim provide the reader with a variety of possible suspects. Not only was his house a bone of contention with the neighbors, but he was sleeping with most of the wives in the neighborhood. There are other secondary characters who add to the color and texture of the story. Not everyone in England is playing with a full deck. This mystery is a good one. There are steps along the way which lead the reader on a journey to find the murderer. It is a very entertaining journey. This is the 4th book in a series. I have not read any of the other books, but I could follow the events and characters without too much trouble.Ms Jameson has created a place and time which is populated by characters who entertain and make turning the pages an adventure.

Another excellent Emma Jackson novel
Another excellent book in the style of previous novels in this series. The plot is a bit convoluted, however it is reasonably easy to follow

Enjoying this series
Intriguing storylines and there are characters that are dimensional and evolve, warts and all. I also enjoy the sharing of life in London, the subtle travelogue and cultures. Its a great series that is well worth the effort to collect and read.

Great Characters great story
Emma you nailed this one! I absolutely adored this particular story and it's wonderful twists not only with the murder suspects but the endearing relationship between the main characters Kate and Tony. Loving the evolution of the characters and their innate relationship hurdles through work and homefront difficulties. Keep up the great writing! Looking forward to reading the next episode in Lord and Lady Hetheridge journey.
