I'm nearly done with this book and I must say ...
I'm nearly done with this book and I must say it's very well put together. The learning curve is moderate and you can even challenge yourself a bit more by doing the extra practice problems at the end of each chapter, which helps you get some more coding experience. That's always a plus.Unlike the criticisms I've heard about many bootcamps and online coding courses, which tend to focus strictly on coding syntax, this book provides context to the content as you develop applications. Two things to note about the book, though:1) Sometimes there are typos in the code. This forces you to debug the code. I guess it's good for experience.2) Some of the code's "if" or "loop" statements are a bit complex, forcing you to sit there and analyze the logic behind it. Again, this does give you more experience as you attempt to understand the logic, but it can be frustrating. While these do give you examples of how you can use advanced statements, it takes you away from the purpose of a particular chapter while you mull over this one statement before proceeding.

well written for a beginner
I have finished the first few chapters of this book. I should say this one is the best I have read so far on PHP. The book is well organized. It is very beginner friendly. Every line of new code is explained in detail. And the script is developped in a prograssive way that one can easily follow.I write a review for this one mainly because I wrote a review for another book, which really sucks. PHP: An Essential Beginners Guide to Learn the Realms of PHP From A-Z. The author does not even care to do some formating on the code. How can you expect for more. My advise is try the preview before you click to buy.

Easy to follow, good introduction to PHP
This was the textbook for a recent graduate level class on web development using PHP. Overall, the book is easy to follow with good practice examples. There were a few topics that required additional research because they were beyond the scope of the book, but for a beginner introduction to the subject, it does a good job.

Best Book to Learn PHP skills available
The book is well written and the examples are esay to follow. As other reviewers have stated, upon completion of Ullman's work, you will have a solid understanding of PHP fundamentals to assist you in mastering more advanced concepts in other publications. Coming from a strong programming and database background, the book has served me well in learning how php is used in developing web sites. In addition, I found the examination on the CSS consise framework very helpful, because it help further strenghten html and css fundamentals that I have been learning as well. Finally, the author does an excellent job providing other resources to explore. This work is well worth the price. No single book will make you an expert, but this one will help you in developing a very valuable skill in today's IT market.

Great start to PHP
Great book for a beginner. The author uses simple PHP to start building a form, then he adds more advanced techniques to expand upon this with a working 'mock' application. Although I am only half-way through the book I am finding it very helpful to type out all the examples, read the tips given and explore the resources that the author points out. Love this book .

Great book
I really liked this one. It comes in handy when the coding is bigger than just a simple SQL inquiry.

Great For Begineers
This is an excellent book for PHP beginners. It starts with from complete basics. PHP is a server-side language. This book contains 13 chapters. The Examples in this book are all practical. The last one that is Chapter 13 is the central chapter since you will start building the entire project with the knowledge of all the first 12 chapters. Beginners should definitely buy this book.

Not Directly or Immediately Useful for WordPress
Depends what you want to do with PHP. I found, after having bought this book, that what I really wanted was a thorough breakdown of how WordPress works and what the various WP PHP files do and how they actually work together. I'm sure that this book would help with that and I am also sure that a true PHP guru wouldn't even need WordPress anyway. But all I want is something that gives me a better understanding so that I can confidently tweak WordPress and get on with my main job of producing content for ourlife.co.uk.

Really a very great and helpful book
If anyone wants to start with PHP learning this is the right book to start with I have some other books to on PHP but I found this book particularly really very very good because it gives line by line explanation as well as lot lots of tips are there to avoid mistakes I don't know why other people are putting negative comments but as far as my experience with this book as I have already finished with it is that it is really a very good book I would recommend to buy the other two books from Larry ullman including this one that concludes into 3 books and begin with PHP for web then PHP advanced object oriented programming then move on to PHP and my SQL that would be the natural progression with the books
