make it your first book on Dark pool and high frequency trading
I had always been considering books with the title "for dummies" not worthy of a serious read till I ran to this one.The author definitely have a lot of experience in the industry and has a gift of being able to explain complex stuff in easy to digest ways. This becomes especially important when it comes to dark pool and high frequency trading, various reasons exist for which the subject is seldom covered in easy and clear way.It is basically a kinda weird fact that people who knows well about it refuse to talk much and people who knows little tends to talk much but all wrong and confusing. While not a book for "how to earn big bucks by trading in dark pools and use high frequency trading", it has tried to present the readers with a clear picture of how dark pool works inside out and how high frequency trading is misused to gain an advantage over others in certain scenarios. There are detailed examples showing each typical scenario and you will find it no problem following on.There are also useful resources listed for the interested to dig deeper. It's not the kind of book covering all details but I am happy to finish it quickly and close the book with the kind of satisfying feeling if I want to know more I know how and where to get it.If you are ever as curious as me and constantly wondering what those hypes about dark pool and high frequency trading is all about, but yet unable to afford the time to read a 500 pages book, this is the book for you!

Errors in the Introduction
Only had to read to page 3 in the introduction to find errors. References to URL for cheat sheets for dark pools and URL for extras on dark pools resulted in error messages. Customer support at publisher could not help, Technical support at publisher was unreachable. Still waiting foran email response. I am wary of finding other errors.

This book was a perfect introduction to the industry
I've been preparing for HFT interviews, and even though I have a background in finance and computer science, I wanted to start with a high-level overview of HFT and the related market microstructure. This book was a perfect introduction to the industry, going over terminology, the participants, trends and the basics of how dark pools/HFT came about. It's geared towards people who already know a bit about finance/trading, but is written in such a simple, direct manner that it should be understandable by beginners so long as they understand the basics of how supply/demand affect market prices.3 things that I especially like:- Provides concrete, simple examples of various trading strategies -- Whenever I didn't understand how a certain trick or strategy employed by HFT algorithms works, a hypothetical order book would be shown with an easy-to-understand timeline of events- Consistent details when explaining examples -- Whenever the author went over a specific trading scenario, he would include the necessary details to make sure it made sense and was consistent with previous definitions/explanations (ex. specifically pointing out things like the use of a market order, or the potential for hidden volume on the order book)- Repetition of key points -- Although the book does progress from beginning to end, and that's how I read it, the chapters can be read on their own if you're just interested in a specific topic. As a result, the author repeats certain key points throughout the book, which I found to be useful as a learning mechanism. After reading this, you will definitely remember the meaning of terms like NBBO, pinging, quote stuffing, etc. along with other useful tidbits of knowledge such as typical lot size of HFT trades. All in all, it's a quick read (I read it in a weekend at the bookstore) and provides a good, high-level introduction to the world of dark pools and HFT.

You wan't be a pro, after going through with the book, but You will have a good understanding of Darkpools an HFT.You will learn:-What are Dark Pools?-What are they created for? (Hint: not for cheating You from the bigining)-Who are the Players?-How are they regulated?-What does "Automated Trading" mean?-What kinda Orderttypes do exist?-What kinda "Special" Order Types do exist? (Hint: A s***load funny things)-What is HFT?-How does it work?-Am I efeccted, while buying 10 Stoks of #MSFT ? (Hint: You are!)-What are Key HFT Strategies-What are Algorithms and how do they work? You see, it's a lot of stuff, but embedded into the logic of a typical "For Dummies" book, You can jump from chapter to chapter, return, anddon't miss anything. It is well written and with a nice sense of humor, where it's needed.Once again, YOU WILL NOT BE A PRO, after reading. But you will see much things in a different way, and mybe some things, You see, will make a lot of sense now.You can buy it.
