TI-83 Plus Graphing Calculator For Dummies

Easy to figure out one thing at a time, or to skip to something you need to review.

This is a great, helpful book. Only thing is that it's hard to find the answers fast. I mean your getting the book because you are a dummy at the Graphing Calculator...it would be very helpful if it had a video to go with it. Even being that the cost would increase.Even though the answers are in the book, You don't know enough to find them because it's written as if you already know something about the calculator and the functions...but of coure you don't, hense you are buying the dummies book. I had to go to you-tube a lot and type in the wording to describe the particular calculation my son was attempting to do that was his homework assignment. I would always find it on youtube, and then I would know how to find it in the book after that. So, a computer CD-Rom to go with the book would be a big plus, with clear titles to direct you to the function, and it's way to do it on the calculator.

Ok so in truth I have never read a book on how to use a calculator so I have nothing to compare it to. I can however tell you what the book did for me. It made navigating the physical calculator(The buttons) and the menues easy. Instead of saying to turn the calculator off press 2nd off, it says to turn the calculator off press 2nd on. This notation is used throughout. The book includes a financial section this was worthless to me I will not be doing finances. All in all this book made it easier to navigate the calculator along with giving you some cool tips and tricks. Great book in my opinion. It is a little short but I'll bet it covers almost all of the calculators capabilities.

Others have said this as well... if you are buying the calculator, buy this as well and just ignore the manual included with the device. This is much more clear, easier to follow, and lets you focus on the areas you really need rather than trying to work through every function on a very complicated device. My son had no problem learning how to use it for the features he needs as a freshman, and I know he'll have no trouble as he advances in math for other features as well. Highly recommended!

I bought this book to help me figure out how to use my TI-83 Plus for College Algebra. When I took Algebra in high school over 30 years ago, no one used calculators like this - we had to learn to figure everything on paper. As I got to different chapters, I tried to look up how to do a certain function, and for the most part - I couldn't find it in this book. Because Algebra was hard for me to understand, I sometimes did not know what I needed to do to calculate the formula. It would have been nice if there had been a little more help in that regard. Luckily, the class is over and I am returning my rented calculator and planning to resell my book.

The product was delivered quickly, and the book was in perfect condition, but I feel that I must be more of a dummy than the author had in mind, as I have been unable to figure out some of the instructions for a couple of the simpler functions. It is not to be handed to me on a platter, evidently. I shall not be daunted. No daunts here. I shall go on, undaunted. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase. Much better than the TI manual.

I am not a huge fan of the "Dummies" series of books in general. But as I am such a novice with this calculator, and as most of the books I found were a bit more specifically oriented toward one or another specific function of the calculator, I figured I'd give it a try.It's perfect for a beginner like me. I'm sure that as I learn more and more, I'll need more in-depth coverage as found in some other books, but this is getting me off to the start I need.

I loved the finance section of this book but everything else was simply a rehash of what is in the existing TI-83+ book which can be downloaded for free from the TI website. As a matter of fact the free download from the TI website is far superior. This book comes across more as a recipe book which explains how to push buttons but does not give much examples as to why you might want to do this. I find it significantly different from the TI-89 book for dummies which I would easily give 5 stars to. I am even suspicious that the Finance chapter was written by a different person than the rest of the book, or possibly that the author's area of expertise was Finance and he wasn't that familiar with anything else.

Excellent piece of work. Makes life a lot easier. Clear and concise. It appeals to all users, especially as the calculator is in the £70 bracket.

This calculator was required by both my sons for Math and this book was wonderful at explaining the thing! Wonderful book.

Essential reading for those of my generation to whom a slide rule was the only calculator. These books for dummies fill the need.
