An Original Kirkbride hospital dealing with mental illness.
A Kirkbride Hospital original. The State of NJ and the County of Morris unfortunately made no effort to save any portion of it.Even after developers were willing to save it and repurpose it.The book was an effort by the writers to save it from a historical perspective. The book is now the best memory for this site which is now a grass field.

Worth the read
A wonderful visit back in time to another day. So sad that it was torn down. I am lucky enough to live near the historic site. When I first drove up and saw it, about a year before it's demolition, I fell in love with the whole place. It was such an amazing structure. I never saw the inside, but there was never a need. If you saw the size of it from the outside, it was such an awe, you knew the inside was just as amazing. All the history that happened there too, will always be felt. I appreciated it even more when I saw it being torn down. The walls where so thick, and you knew it was built by hard working people. All by hand. Makes you wonder if we could ever build something like it today.Great book, just wish it could have a few more pictures and a little more of the history of mental rehabilitation. Overall I would recommend.

A fantastic dream for the mentally ill.
It showed the good intentions of the designer and founder of the facility. The design and furnishings were certainly admirable, though the reality of actual need was greater than could be accommodated by his dream.

Good book. The place is 10 miles from us
Good book. The place is 10 miles from us. Such a shame that the gorgeous old buildings were demolished. The new place is without character.

Love this book!
Very well written and lots of great photos. I wish I could have seen this beautiful building before New Jersey tore it down.
