Beautiful, uplifting book - I've given two to our local grade school; good for any age
Lorraine is beautifully illustrated by an award-winning African-American artist, written by a Grammy winning songwriter, and the story is based on a Native American folk tale. This combination is powerful and uplifting for children and adults. Lorraine tells the story of a young African-American girl and her father who cope with scary times through their love of music and close family ties. The text reads like a song, echoing the theme of music's importance in life. I would give this book to children, adults or new parents to read to their babies. I've given two copies to our local elementary school - it is an enchanting book and also helps meet local school goals of acquiring library books with racially diverse main characters.

My daughter loves this book, a new favorite
We live in the south, and all love Old Crow Medicine Show. Upon hearing about this book on NPR, I tracked it down on Amazon. It has quickly become one of my daughters favorite books. She is 3 years old, and loves to help read along. The artwork within the book is lovely, and very realistic for a children's book. I will be buying several more copies as Christmas gifts for friends with children. The story is wonderful, and well written. This is a book that will age well, and be passed down I am sure.

Love This Story
So, my first name is Lorraine and I am a singer, and this past year there was a terrible storm and trees fell on my house, putting me out of my home for a couple of months. I love stories that give music the power to soothe and heal, and this is a good one, especially for me as it told my story. The illustrations are simply gorgeous. But I really got the book for my niece, who is 5, and I also got her a pennywhistle and a harmonica to go with it (I also got a copy for me). We celebrated her birthday today by reading the book while we played the instruments. She loved the pictures, too, and really got a lot out of them because there was so much to see in them. Unfortunately, we also woke her baby sister up - twice.

Like everything about this book!
Just read this to my 3 yr old gd. Made it to the last page before she shut the book and announced "the end." She really paid attention, pointed at the tornado and asked what it was, and proclaimed it was scary. Lovely story about connection with her grandpa through music, humor, mystery, and outstanding illustrations!

Great Book by My Favorite Band's Lead
I'd support anything the guys from Old Crow Medicine Show do, but this book from Ketch is great. Ketch's storytelling has always been incredible, and this short story is no exception. The illustrations are also stunning. Completely worth it for your kid, or maybe just your own adult imagination. Thanks Ketch!

A Beautiful Children's Book, Worthy of an Adult's Appreciation
Lorriane is beautifully written and has stunning illustrations. Ketch and Higgins' collaboration results in a book that is deep and meaningful for adults and children alike. My kids resonate with the story about a young girl who loves music but fears big storms, while I connect with the intergenerational relationship between Lorraine and her grandfather. This book has something for everyone.I've purchased this book as gifts for many friends with children because I think it should be a staple of every children's book collection. I highly recommend Lorraine.

Buy it.
I love reading this book to my son. The cadence is wonderful and the moral is sweet. it is different than a lot of books and introduces kids to words they might not hear usually. It is one I choose quite often!
