Q: will this fit on a shipping container?

As with all "will it fit?" questions, the answer depends on the size of the container's lock up mechanisms. So, it depends. I've used these locks for a wide variety of smaller applications. I would not use this on a shipping container, and here is why... These are fantastic locks in their class, which is smaller applications, which is securing things people would utilize small hand tools to steal. But, typically when people plan to break into shipping containers, they bring power tools and hand tools big enough to break into multiple shipping containers in rapid succession. "Will it fit?" is the wrong question. What you need for something like a shipping container is a large lock that is designed to form fit over the locking hasp, taking up all extra space, and has security measures specifically designed to defeat common methods used for breaking into shipping containers. If you had a small lock like this (which I love) on one, it would specifically paint your shipping container among the rest as being ripe for theft, because this thing isn't designed for that. Something being a good lock is one parameter, but also a lock has very specific function parameters for which it is meant to be utilized. That's why there are so many different shapes and sizes of lock. One of the best things you can do with that lock is take up all the space available, giving thieves no room to work. This lock would fail you, and it would be no fault of the lock itself. Look at the Rota-Lock (sp?), not because it is comparable or the best or anything, but it is specifically designed for shipping containers. Even if it fits, don't use this for a shipping container, that's my advice.
