Franklin Sports Six Player Croquet Set

This is the nicest croquet set I've ever owned. The wickets are solid steel and the mallets have steel connections. Got a great price on a used set, and I'm really happy about this purchase.

This is the first negative review I have ever written on ANY of my many online purchases. It is a TERRIBLE set. I had an $80 set that I bought that lasted the summer but then started to wear and break as my family used it every day so I decided to spend the money and get a "good set" to last as my family really took a liking to the game. Although the set looks like the quality is good, and most of it is, the handle connections to the metal threads on the mallet handle are terrible!! 3 of them broke right out of the handles the first day and not from any sort of abuse at all! My daughter's broke first and then 2 more after the first day of use. I can say the rest of the set was very high quality but the mallets are garbage, which is the most important part of the set!! Very disappointed to say the least. I was very excited to use these and broke them out at a family function and it was quite embarrassing.

I’ll start off with the good:* nice sturdy wickets* decent balls* very nice carrying case with individual bags for each item type.* The mallets look goodNow the bad:* Two of the six mallets were loose right out of the box. We tightened the shaft to the head and the head already felt loose when you shook the mallet.** we put those two to the side as we only needed four for right now.* one of those four mallet got a crack in the bottom of the shaft just by tightening it onto the brass socket.* a second mallet broke when my 11 year old daughter took a relatively soft hit that went about 6 feet in front of her.* We just received this set in the mail on Saturday and now it’s Monday and we already have two broken mallets.*We just received it on Saturday and I requested an exchange or return and was told that this product is not returnable. These mallets felt like they were going to break after the first hit. They felt fragile even compared to the cheap Canadian tire set they are replacing.I would be happy just to get the mallets replaced with new ones that are not defective. But as it is, there are no exchanges or returns so…I definitely do NOT recommend this purchase! Even if it’s on sale.

By all appearances this is a nice set. However the mallet hardware is really poor causing the mallet head to loosen up after only a few light hits of the ball. In some cases the hardware was stripped or missing. Of the 6 mallets, only one survived an entire game. I have since super glued all the connection points and it seems to be holding. I thought Franklin would produce higher quality equipment especially for the premium price you pay for this set. Very disappointed. On a positive note...the wickets are nice.
