Q: Is it big enough for cardinals to enter?

it is big enough but my Cardinals are lazy and prefer easier pickings. My small birds like chickadees like it fine. Unfortunately, i had one squirrel that made it in also although he wasn't real happy about it. It still like it and it opens and latches easily.

Q: Where are the 4 feeding ports?

Two feeding ports are connected in the center by screws ad opposite each other. Pass your cursor over picture of feeder to enlarge and you'll be able to see what I am talking about. I know the ports are connected because a small field mouse was able to get his head thru the wire cage and stuck it's head in one of the ports. Could not back his head out because his cheeks were full of bird seed and he looked like a chipmunk. It took a young 17 year old female neighbor who is animal lover 2-1/2 hours to free the poor little mouse/rat by cutting the wires and disassembling the feeder by cutting the wires to get to the feeding holes, only to be stymied because of the full cheeks. All the while the baby was screeching and thrashing, she then had to break the collar with the perch attached to free it by backing his head out. Greedy little bugger! We had 5 of my female neighbors working on this disaster, providing various tools, etc. While the feeder may be squirrel proof, it is not mouse proof, essentially being destroyed to free the animal! I will say, I have 2 of these and so far the other one is intact.....no uninvited visitors. Personally, I think the cage should have smaller squares. Having said all that, so far I have no other complaints. Also, even though you didn't ask, I would purchase a larger capacity feeder, as the birds in my neighborhood clean it out in one day. I also have 2 other type feeders, so this is not the only feeder. Good Luck!
