New York Review of Books English, August: An Indian Story

Atmospheric and unconventional................
Well this was a hugely impressive and surprising novel for me to read, having only read more mainstream stuff on India up to now.A diverse and colourful collection of characters fills the novel and a number of issues such as latent racism within Indian society and the casual corruption that is accepted by all strata are confronted head on.The book has its humour but in many ways I found it extremely biting in its satire more than humourous.Highly recommended for anyone (like me!) who has ever got to work and thought "Why do I bother?!"

Pleasureful reading
Whatever i may say seems less while praising the depth of this very book. It's a classic work of fiction, yet seems so realistic seeing it from an Indian point of view.
