Great rods, cheap reels, bad shipping
PROs-Extremely budget friendly-Nice solid rod-Robustly secured eyeletsCONs-Cheap feeling reel-Ceramic eyelet insertOverall this combo is an excellent bang per you buck. The ceramic eyelets seem to be secured better than others that still use them. The real con with ceramic is if you're overly harsh on them you can bust them or pop them out. Also you shouldn't use braided with them because over time braided line will cut into it and possibly pop your line eventually. The reel is very cheap feeling and mostly plastic. I'll use the reels till they break but honestly there's no real telling on the durability till I start using it.

Good Quality, Great Value
I use these (7' with 55 size reel) for channel catfish up to 15 pounds and so far the rod and reel have performed well...The rod is not super sensitive but is plenty sensitive enough for my use and still can detect some pretty light bites. It has a good amount of backbone to handle fish in the 15-20 pound range easily. (I haven't had the chance for anything bigger) The handle is a nice comfortable foam that is not too soft and not too hard. The eyes are well aligned, sturdy and have held up good to braided line. It has about the perfect amount of flex for circle hooks..I Know that when the rod loads up, the fish is hooked every time. I use 3/8oz to 3oz sinkers and it casts them well. The white color is easily seen at night....The reel is good, not as good as the Okuma Avenger series, but I didn't expect it to be with only 1 ball bearing. It is pretty smooth reeling, it has a slight "un-balanced" feel, but very tolerable and doesn't interfere with performance. The bail has a solid click and stop when you open it and flips closed with relative ease when you crank the handle a very short turn. The drag seems pretty good and has held up to catfish up to 20 pounds with no problems..The anti-reverse is pretty good with about 3/4" of take-up before it engages. The rod and reel together are paired about perfect, size wise, for each other and casts very well...All in all, this is a good set-up for a "static" type fishing, but if your fishing is constantly cast and retrieve, it should do OK but not great..All that said, I'm very satisfied with the combo for my type of fishing, and it is leaps and bounds better than the low cost Shakespeare Tiger combos from wallly world. I don't expect it to hold up very long to frequent, heavy fishing..But for the casual fisherman who doesn't fish often, or to keep for a spare/loaner, it will be fine.UPDATE: Still very satisfied with the combo, but on two of my reels I noticed when cleaning them, the brass nut that holds the bail on the shaft was loose..No big deal, just tightened them up with an open end wrench and that solved the slight "unbalanced" feeling I mentioned earlier..So just to be sure, when you get your reel in, remove the spool and check the brass nut. FYI, the threads on the shaft are reversed threads. Turn nut CCW to tighten. I also recommend cleaning off the factory grease and use a quality reel lube. This will really increase performance.

For the $$$
I mean this is a really large rod. Not joking. Some of the reviews stated that people were fishing off the beach with this.... This rod is not a off the beach rod unless you are planning on catching something 30 lbs or more - I mean that can happen, but seriously this is more big game - I mean big game. Cast is good with ample wait / rig. For the money this is a great rod and real combo and lets face it - it can be replaced at a reasonable price. PS- If you use this in saltwater, like any rod and real used in saltwater - just note you need to flush the rod and real thoroughly with fresh water. In short great rod for price. Would buy it again, but I don't think this rod is breaking anytime soon. It is a strong setup. PS- good for either big game out on a boat away from shore or if you fish off a bridge and want to catch big game and actually bring it back up on the bridge. Hope this helps.-Amazon Prime member, came in 2 days as promised and came in great packaging with no damage and as promised. Oh and not sure what lbs test it comes with, but comes with line. I changed it out with preferred 30 lbs test.

Not worth it - junk
Didn't last a season. Reel froze top eyelet fell off. I know it's not high quality based on price but I take care of my stuff and it should have lasted more than one Summer.

Cheap as hell, works well.
For a cheap surf combo, this is great. The screws got rusty after 5 uses (and I rinsed after each use). The guides for rusty too.... BUT if you want a solid cheap setup with that "it works great and if it breaks, oh well" type of combo, this be it. Out of box this thing is ready. I mean, you can't beat a cheap combo that works. The problem with surf rods is they take a gnarly beating. From being long and banged up in the car all the way to sandy beaches. For the price, this trashy cheap combo is worth it. I've gotten my money out of it fishing 5 times on the surf. You get what you pay for so don't exspect this to be no $300 mid shelf setup. The line in my favorite setup cost more than this whole combo and I catch fish on this combo too. So if you want a good "disposable" surf rod combo, come and get it.I usually fish with Fin Nor Lethal series reels and this cheap ass combo always tags along. Either as a backup or auxiliary line. The action on the rod is pretty nice. What makes a fishing rod cheap is the guides and how they are installed. I wouldn't want to hook up on a 5' Shark with this combo, but I target pompano, bluefish, whiting, etc. also I don't bring my surf rods to the pier because that's over kill and I don't want to harm my babies... it this one will come out and lay all up on those concrete railings. No problem.
