Full of Suspense and the Unexpected
This story is set in the early 20th century and also in the present day. From 1911-16 Emma Higgins worked as a Stewardess on board ocean liners sailing from Southampton to New York. She lived with her mother and 2 younger sisters, Ruby and Lily. Emma and Ruby were both on the Titanic in 1912 when it sank although they were fortunate enough to survive. The author describes the terrible event vividly in detail. I could almost picture the horrific scene unfolding. Emma enjoyed her job and the opportunities it offered her for seeing the world. Harriet's story is set in the present day. She had recently been widowed and had 2 grown up daughters. When she was clearing out her attic she came across an old sea trunk. It had belonged to her grandmother who had worked on ocean liners for several years. I found the chapters about Emma's life so much more interesting to read than Harriet's. I disliked Ruby as she sounded so self centred and seemed to care about nobody but herself. There are some surprises along the way. This book is very sad at times.

Truly gripping!
This is a truly gripping and heart-wrenching story of sisterhood, love and forgiveness. I was transported back to the age of the giant steamships criss-crossing the Atlantic, and to the ill-fated voyage of the Titanic. The author has done an immense amount of research and really brings this event and era to life – I truly felt as though I was there in that moment with the heroine and I experienced her shock and grief as if it was my own. In the story set in the present, there is also potential heartbreak, and my heart went out to a mother struggling with a seriously ill child, and a grandmother estranged from one daughter and denied access to some of her grandchildren. The courage needed to keep hope alive and to carry on, no matter what, was remarkable, and I empathised with her every step of the way. An emotional roller-coaster that will keep readers turning the pages – highly recommended!

Enjoyable
I liked this story, but felt it was rushed I would have liked more on both stories especially in the past. There was nothing about the titanic that I didn't already know, but the short information about the other two ships was interesting. Overall it's a nice enjoyable read, sad in places but the ending was uplifting. I would rate this 3.5* tbh.

Lovely read!
It's as if the book gods, knowing that I had a newborn, was dealing with night feeds and had recently purchased a kindle with a back-light, whispered a Kathleen McGurl novel featuring the titanic into existence just for me! 😂As always with McGurl, I had a great time with this one. Perfectly engaging, and kept me company during some long nights spent feeding my daughter last week. Loved both stories that were told and went to sleep very happy with how it all ended. Delightful read!
