Epic saga
Like all of Feist's books, the creates a world rich with sensation that draws the reader into the story. You feel, hear, and smell everything around you. If you haven't read this author before, start with the first book of the serpentine saga or magician apprentice. I don't collect autographs . I have only two. Thirty years ago I met Andre Norton and she autographed and gave me a limited edition book of hers. A few years ago my son got a copy of Magician's Apprentice autographed by Raymond Feist and gave it to me

Feist's best series
The Robert Feist trilogy "The Serpent Wars" rise heads above his newer works and is a classic in the field of Fantasy/Sci Fi. His story is compelling, his charactor's so believable and likeable you won't be able to put these down until you reach the end. He ties many of his older charaters into the books and his central hero's/protagonists will have you staying up till dawn to find out if Roo, Eric, Pub and Miranda survive the travails they must endure to not only save themselves, but the magic and entrancing world of Midkemia. Even the supporting characters are well filled, interesting, and intriguing .If you have not read any of his other books, you can still pick this up and not feel lost, on the contrary, the moment you finish, you will go back and order his other works to find out more about the character's pasts, the lives of other characters (such as Lord James, Calis, Kitty, and Macros the Black) and once you do you will not rest until you have finished all his current works and then like me, check every day to see if he has published another tale of the mysterious world of Midkemia, to find out why it is the key to all of the inhabited universe and the center of the battle between good and evil.

Good Book, but a Change of Pace
I've always thought this book stood out as a little different. Some people might argue that it is really unneeded as it doesn't advance the plot of the Serpent War much. However, I like the more personal story of Rio and his rise to wealth. It gives a different perspective of the world, that you wouldn't see in most fantasy settings. The Kindle edition could do with some editing as you go from one sentence talking about Roo, to the next talking about Calis on the other side of the world with no page breaks.

Awesome
I really wasn’t looking forward to a business side of this saga, but it turned out to be awesome! The series continues to get better and better. The author is outstanding, and a force to be reckon with.

Editing, Editing, Editng...?
I first read this entire series while in the Army almost 20 years ago and thought I would enjoy reading it again, so purchased the digital version from Amazon. As remembered the story was well written and flowed without a lot of redundant plot twists, however what I didn’t remember was all the editing mistakes. You would think someone should actually read the sorry verses just running a spell checker and calling it a day. Very disappointing.

Great continuation to the series, poor adaptation to kindle.
Good story line and character developement, in my opinion anyway. The adaptation to kindle is very bad. Many misspelled words, no breaks between story shifts from one group of characters within a chapter. Most kindle books have a couple blank lines between shifts, not having them makes things hard to follow without stopping and backing up to reread.Like I said, good book, bad kindle.

Excellent novel and series, terrible Kindle Editing
I've been reading Feist's Magician novels for some 20 years now, starting from a chance introduction from a college friend during a lazy summer day while looking for something to pass my time. Feist is definitely among my favorite authors. I enjoyed Rise of a Merchant Prince along with the rest of the Serpent War Saga.My review is with respect to the quality of its e-book digitalization. As I've been working overseas for many years, without access to my print library of Feist's work, I decided to purchase the Kindle Editions for a nostalgic re-read (downloaded Nov 2015). I have to say that I've been somewhat disappointed with the product received. Many subsections are not formatted correctly with paragraphs concatonated and sections merged together. If I wasn't already familiar with the story, it could lead to some confusion. In one particular section, notably when Roo approaches Erik for a loan, minor continuity details of the exchange with the Duke have been omitted. Overall it's as if the person(s) responsible for digitalization and editing haven't read the story before or proofed the work for continuity before release. It's a shame that the digitalization was so poorly completed; it detracted from my ability to enjoy the story again.Should the publisher update the editing, I will likewise be happy to update my review.

Rise of a Merchant Prince
4 stars as this book develops the characters well from the first book with a slightly unusual story for a fantasy book. The reason it did not receive 5 stars was the reliance the book has on both the first book for setting the tale and the third for not having a satisfying end.Easy to read, strong characters with the main character showing selfish shortcomings and dubious morals. As with the first book some fantasy readers may be disappointed with the book as the lead characters are neither blessed with magic or super human abilities of any sort, although the main character is blessed with great business sense (no sucker is given an even break).Still want to read more from this author such are the strength of character development and the general quality if writing.

Not the best
Whilst the obligatory is good, and the parts of the book with pug, Eric, nakor etc are very good I found the character of roo who is given most prominence here to be far to unlikable to make this easy to read. I can see the importance of this character to the overall ark but find him to be too foolish in some areas to believe with everything else we learn about him. Overall this was the first book in the series that I found I had to consciously try to read rather than just allow straight through.

real characters and an exciting plot
engaging plot focused on a character who was introduced in a previous book.Well written story whitch moves at a good pace.Feist has a tendency to re-explain characters' actions or motivation which has been described previously. The whole series of books, starting at "Magician" is engrossing.

Magicians Everywhere
Having survived his visit to Novindus, a pardoned Roo sets about making his fortune back in the Kingdom. Pantathians, beings from other worlds and old and dearly loved character or three return to make his life a bit more exciting than he'd hoped. Meanwhile Erik finds himself up-to-his-neck in the mire again.

Brilliant
A complete change of scene, mixed with dark evil. The balance of this part of the saga is wonderful. The world of krondor commerce is brought to life impeccably and the mystery of the pantathians is developed further. A superb read which has more than enough highs to keep you going. I couldn't put it down.
