As cinephiles are aware, watching any smaller-budget movies, who are not critical hits, and over 30-yeas-old on streaming is difficult. Even more rare are blu ray versions of these movies since physical media is becoming a niche hobby. Fortunately, there are still cinephiles who love well-written, entertaining, non-IP movies, and are willing to distribute them on boutique labels. Thank you for your hard work.

Every once and a while, you find a movie which you love, but just can't find anywhere. For me, the movie was Undercover Blues. For some reason, it never showed up for streaming and for a while it was out of production. That has changed, it is now available as a DVD and in Blu Ray.Dennis Quaid and Kathleen Turner do an excellent job as Mr. and Mrs. Blue, retired CIA agents who have hung up their cloaks and daggers to start a family. Stanley Tucci adds a comic touch as Muerte (Morty). Jane and Jeff Blue are called out of retirement to recover a stolen weapon, stolen by a spy from their past. As the Blues and their new baby try to track down the missing weapon, they are stalked by Muerte, who is trying to get revenge after he failed to mug Jeff Blue.I love the bank robbery scene, in which Jeff Blue foils a robbery while observed by two New Orleans finest, who are convinced that there is something wrong with the Blues.

1993's "Undercover Blues" pairs up Dennis Quaid and Kathleen Turner as recently retired spies and new parents, on maternity leave in New Orleans. Their characters seem unable, however, to avoid muggers, run-ins with skeptical police, and their former bosses, who want them to do one last mission. Despite their best efforts, they become enmeshed in an arms smuggling plot while juggling child care and the local police, who think they are criminals.Lest this seem like a less than promising storyline, execution is everything. A persistant but hapless mugger, played to perfection by Stanley Tucci, tries to be a tough guy but repeatedly falls prey to the superior skills of Quaid and Turner and to his own clumsiness. Quaid and Turner thmeselves seem to a practiced routine down for every form of danger, from generating an instant but convincing cover story for each encounter with the police, to fending off muggers with martial arts and a baby carriage, to derailing the arms smuggling plot with comedic finese. Tom Arnold adds to the comedy in a nice supporting role.This movie is highly recommended as an entertaining venture featuring lots of physical comedy and some believable chemistry between Quaid and Turner.

If you're looking for something along the lines of 'Citizen Kane' or 'Casablanca,' don't buy this one. If you're looking for something like 'The Big Easy' or 'In Like Flint,' i.e.,, a pure guilty pleasure, full of fun, quick wit and a bit of action, then give this movie a whirl. Kathleen Turner and Dennis Quaid are married government agents on vacation in the Big Easy, while on maternity leave. Coaxed back into taking care of a 'small matter' by their handler (Richard Jenkins), they tangle with an old foe, Novacek (Fiona Shaw)… while evading NOPD investigation/interference (Obba Babatunde and Larry Miller), toying with a street hood, Muerte (Stanley Tucci), and acting like there's nothing out of the ordinary with neighbor vacationers (Tom Arnold and Park Overall). Turner's and Quaid's chemistry and quips are fantastic, and Tucci's performance is to die for. Already had this one on DVD, but wanted the better quality of Blu-Ray. Price was right. Glad I upgraded.

I've always enjoyed watching Dennis Quaid, and in this comedy he is particularly good. He and Kathleen Turner work well together and the film itself is a fun romp.The supporting cast is great, also, especially Stanley Tucci, one of my favourite actors, and Fiona Shaw, who chew up the scenery and look like they had a whale of a time doing it.The film is not very well regarded, but it's a great way to spend an hour and a half with a bag of popcorn and a can of Coke, as long as you don't require too much of it and can get past Larry Miller's lisp.

Un couple d'espions retirés du métier passe des vacances ensoleillées à la Nouvelle-Orléans avec leur bébé. Mais la présence d'une petite frappe sans envergure qui se fait appeler Muerte et d'une espionne de l'Est aussi redoutable que psychopathe va modifier le cours tranquille du séjour de M. et Mme Blues et de leur fille. Soyons honnête : j'ai adoré en bloc cette comédie sans prise de tête, et surtout sans temps mort. Tout est impeccable : le couple d'acteurs Turner-Quaid fonctionne à merveille, Stanley Tucci en looser récurent est génial, et le reste du casting est l'avenant. Je regretterais toujours qu'une suite n'ait pas été tournée. Sans doute le succès a-t-il été trop limité. Dommage. En tout cas, pour ceux qui hésiteraient, n'hésitez plus ! Effet antidépresseur garanti !
