Perfect solution at a great price - why didn't my expensive chef knife come with one of these?
Fits my Shun boning knife which is shaped like a scimtar and as sharp as a lightsaber perfectly. One long side and one short side are open so that it forms an envelope that the blade slides into. The fit is snug enough that I don't have to worry about the guard slipping off. I will be purchasing more of these and will use them to replace some of my old and lower quality guards.

It's worth the $10.
As Barry L said in his review, it's a $10 knife -- temper your expectations. I bought this saya for my 8" Misen knife. It's not snug or flush fit by any means. There's a solid half-inch left uncovered due to shape differences which leads to the saya slipping off. However, for $10, you can't really complain. It's lightweight, cute, and covers it in the drawer. It's a nice-to-have if you just like the idea of having your knives sheathed when not in use. I wouldn't rely on it for transport or protection though. 4/5

Temper your expectations, this is a $10 saya
I would temper any expectations about this product looking or feeling great. If you look on the market for gyuto sayas, they're all at least 2-3x the price of this product.I bought 7 sayas as to pair with knives I bought as gifts. All I needed was something that looks decent -- it basically served as a prop that can withstand some light/infrequent use too. The wood is soft, the glue isn't very strong, and the rubber pin is made a least half a millimeter too wide for the hole. I split the glue holding the saya together on a few sayas when I tried to remove the pins . For ease of use, I ended up shaving down the rubber pins with a razor until it fit the hole better. It's not an incredible product, that's for sure. However, for something that costs the same as a Chipotle bowl, it gets the job done.It for sure fits the 210 mm gyutos I bought: Sakai Takayuki Damascus Hammered VG-10.
