I chose this feeder because the compartments are shallow. I worried about my cat getting to the food in a deeper dish. The inserts are 4 inch x 4 inch x 1.5 inch. I use a ceramic dish placed inside each compartment. (I got “MALACASA 5 oz Porcelain Dip Bowls Set 12 Pack Ramekins” on Amazon) This makes clean up easier and avoids the cat contacting plastic.I have an elderly sick cat that needs small frequent feedings whether I am home or not. This feeder does the job well (I have 3 of them). When I leave the house I just set the timers for 2, 4, 6 hours, etc. I don’t have to calculate the time on the clock.I really like this feeder!

This feeder is a gift to all of mankind who have demanding cats. The first night I set it up was the first full night of sleep myself and my dog have had in the 5 months since I got the cat.My poor, deprived kitty was starving to death in the space between his last feeding between 10pm and his breakfast when I would get up at 6:30. Now that I have the feeder set to go off at 2am and 5am, his hunger is no longer driving him to run around the house crying for help. No longer does he need to use his claws to support himself on the mattress to keep from collapsing from lack of sustenance. And my precious Bernese/St.Bernard is now safe from nightly attacks by the prowling hunter seeking to fill his empty belly.The feeder has been working perfectly with no glitches for the past 6 months, it is quick and easy to set, and is very quiet (it clicks when it opens up, quiet enough that I sleep right through it, but loud enough to let the cat know it’s open). Cleaning is a breeze, I just pop the inserts into the dishwasher once a week and shake out any crumbs that might have fallen under the dishes.

The product worked when tested but the pet manage to open within 3 minutes.

I bought this because my dog needs to take his medications every 12 hours. I used the dial automatic feeder before but that one was so confusing to use because there is a certain direction I need to turn the dial to set the time. And the dial one was not accurate. It was off by 10~30 minutes. So I found this one and started using this.This has 2 digital buttons and an LCD display so I can set the time accurately and see when the feeder is going to open. It also remembers the last setting so I don't have to keep putting the hours in. I just put his medications inside the left bowl and close the lid, then click the plus button, "12 h" shows up on the display screen. and I put his food in the right bowl.I also really like that the feeder covers the buttons. My dog is clever enough to press things to open the feeder because he knows that food/medications are inside even when the lids are closed. He tries every day to open the feeder on his own by scratching and punching the feeder but it never opened. (The dial feeder didn't have a cover for the dials so he turned the dial and ate the medications, - because I use tasty pill pockets for medicines, he likes eating medicines)The feeder is very accurate. In the beginning, I checked every day to see if it opens at the set time. It always opened on time, and right at the time, I set.I will continue using this because I am so afraid that I might miss my dog's medication time. The vet warned me that if he misses medication time - even by 30 minutes or an hour, his condition is going to get very serious. And I indeed missed his medication time sometimes by 20~30 minutes in the past because I couldn't make it home on time stuck in traffic. His condition did get worse...After I got this automatic feeder, rest assured. My dog is happy and healthy too. I never have to worry about missing his medication time as long as I make sure batteries are good (4 AA batteries). I highly recommend this.
