Great Book
I found this book a required read for anyone doing research in obfuscation; it certainly gave our research lab. a push in obfuscation related survey. The book maintains a nice balance between theoretical and practical contents, while having a smooth comprehensive text flow throughout. It took me few hours to go ahead and decide to purchase this book, and I don't regret it!

Well worth a read, not read another book like it.
"Surreptitious Software" is an hidden gem in the realm of software security literature. Authored by Christian Collberg and Jasvir Nagra, this book provides comprehensive knowledge on software protection techniques and strategies, providing some practical and valuable guidance for anyone new to the field. The book starts off with a well-explained introduction to the fundamental principles of software security. The authors have done a good job of ensuring that the content is not too technical for beginners, while maintaining enough depth to keep it interesting. The writing is clean and precise, making complex concepts accessible and easy to understand. The exploration of software obfuscation, watermarking, and tamperproofing is done in a way that it is easy to digest and understand. These concepts are elaborated with clear, real-world examples, effectively demonstrating their practical applications. Moreover, the authors provide an honest analysis of the limitations of these techniques, which helps readers to understand when and where to use them effectively.I would love to see an updated version of the book as it is now 14 years old. However, it doesn't take away from the overall usefulness and quality of the book.In summary, "Surreptitious Software: Obfuscation, Watermarking, and Tamperproofing for Software Protection" is a well-structured, informative, and thorough book that serves as an excellent resource for anyone interested in software security. It successfully intertwines theory and practice, and leaves the reader with a solid understanding of software protection strategies.
