All the Apostles of the Bible

Find A Better Resource/This One Is Too Biased
The content of the book disappointed me. Obviously, the author, Herbert Lockyer, didn't have enough material to give the reader a true fact-filled biography of each of the apostles; therefore, he took the liberty of creating his own descriptions by using material from everyone and anyone who had ever written any thing about an apostle. Most of his information seemed to come from people who didn't even live during the time of the apostles. People who simply gave their opinions of the twelve based upon how they viewed the environment of Judea at the time prior to Jesus's birth. At all sounded like too much guess work and, not enough facts. And, you call hear Lockyer's prejudice against the original twelve disciples that Jesus selected to train. The only apostle that author seemed to fall in love with was Paul.I got a strong impression from the author that he thought that Jesus's choices for the twelve was a major screw up. In other words, the author's bias got in the way of the facts. I would've loved to ask the author, "Who would YOU have chosen to take on the task of delivering the New Testament?"

Quality Construction, Questionable Content
The condition of the book was excellent. The content of this book however is verbose in the least. The author draws too much too often out of the words of the biblical text, and consequently exceeds their interpretation. Further contextual considerations from Old Testament prophecy concerning the apostles are replaced by the opinions and eisegetical imaginations of the author. I have read the book once, and have doubts as whether or not I shall grace the pages with a skim again.

Detailed! Inclusive of all the Apostles. Great teaching tool.
The late Herbert Lockyer left us who teach Bible a real treasure in his "All" series. I have his entire series and they are my "go to" books for in depth study of any Bible character. Factual and inspiring. He makes you see things that you haven't seen before. Gems upon gems. My only regret is that this book and others in the series have never been put into digital format.

Not as Expected
The item I received did not look like this cover. I thought I was ordering the 1988 edition, but what came was the 1072. I trust the information inside is good enough for my needs.

Happy to add this book to my library
Once the book finally arrived - I got to reading it immediately. Great book. Well researched. Dare I say, 'fun'. The (now deceased) author Herbert Lockyer laid out a well researched, simple outline (alphabetized) easy to read book. Where most people would have difficulty describing the disciples ....think about it - how much do you know about Bartholomew or say, Thomas? There are PAGES of information on most of the characters. Not only on the original apostles, same research has been extended to the wider circle (Apollos, Barnabas and many many more). Cannot get easier than this. If I have one (slight) issue it's that the author quotes from the King James version. I'm more of the NIV type.
